Unpleasant Experience
After being escorted to our seats by the rude waitstaff, the only thing more disappointing than the service was the bland and uninspired food. We live nearby and have been to many other restaurants in the area. After reading the reviews here we decided to give it a try. The margaritas are watered down, the food is not good, and the waitstaff is pretentious. Take it from a real local - avoid.

Disappointing Brunch
Four of us went to brunch before a matinee yesterday and were disapopinted by the food. The eggs benedict & salmon sandwich were adequate, but the French Toast was terrible. It came out with burnt edges, and when we mentioned it to the waiter he ignored us. I've had good dinner here, but won't be back for brunch.

Avoid the squash ravioli
I just ate at Zuni before the theatre and had the ravioli filled with squash (meager) and fig (barely there) it was expensive 16.95 and drenched in a bland sauce. I left feeling unsatisfied. The veggie wraps were a much better choice both for value 9.95 and taste and presentation. Wait staff pleasant enough. The salads conversely, looked very plentiful and inviting.

Great Brunch
I had brunch with 13 friends before a matinee. The service was attentive and well paced, our orders were perfectly delivered and the food was great.

No Bargain
I checked out previous reviews and made a reservation based upon the good experience of other patrons. One customer previously noticed an odor and it was immediately noticable as soon as you enter the restaurant. It smells like a backed up sewer line. The smell emanated from the bathrooms in the basement. I spent much of the meal swatting flies and considering it was 35 degrees that night, it was unusual to have the insects abounding. The bread was stale and I had the fig ravioli which was good except that it was topped off with an abundance of sprouts which I felt was inappropriate to put on pasta covered in sauce. We recommend Thalia on 8th Ave where we had a much better meal with even better prices.

"Fabulous find" for "non-natives"
After walking a bit to find a non-tourist-type spot to eat between a matinee and a tour, we doubled back and chose Zuni based on menu and look. Great find! Seated immediately, even during Saturday dinner rush, extremely personable server, fabulous food. My husband had the salmon and I had the Cobb saladboth real gems. Low key atmosphere, quiet enough and lively enough. It was the perfect spot for us on our first visit to NYC. Our casual dress was not frowned upon, service was exceptional (attentive table staff and delightful server), and price was reasonable. Every effort made to serve theater customers quickly as well. Highly recommended! Sit near the front or by the bar for a quiet/private experiencesit in the dining room area at the rear for lively conversation. Seems like reservations are a good idea on weekends. Not a "kid" place, but great for couples or singles.
