Most authentic/ Best German food in NYC
Let me begin by explaining that despite living in Manhattan, we make the trip to Zum Stammtisch, which is out of the way, because it is undoubtedly the best German restaurant in NYC. When I first met my husband, who is German, I tried taking him to several German restaurants around the city, some of which I liked, and some of which I'd never been to. After several attempts, my husband was resigned to the fact that "there's no good German restaurants in NYC." I kept trying to get him to try Stammtisch, but he wasn't willing to make the trip to Queens. Fast forward: We are on a visit to his hometown and eating in his family's favorite restaurant. The owner tells us that someone from their hometown has a German restaurant in NYC! Well, of course, it was none other than Stammtisch. We immediately set out for a meal there upon returning home, and victory! Finally, delicious German food in NYC! We have been back many times. From the wiener schnitzel to the spaetzle to the schlag to the beers, the food is delicious. The staff are warm and inviting, and the decor is very traditionally Deutsch. The perfect place for a taste of authentic Germany, whether you want a hearty meal, or a taste of home. As much worth the trip from Manhattan to Queens as it is worth making it to Brooklyn for Grimaldi's! A must for NY foodies!
