Not Real German Food
My wife and I ate here last night and were disappointed. We had two different wurst dishes and the potatoe salad was ice cold and the sauerkraut was really sour and cold. Also, the potatoe salad looked like it came from the local deli, not house made in a German style. Similarly, the sauerkraut was not cooked properly, possibly straight from the can. The food doesn't come up to what we get when we visit Bavaria. The only good item was the German beer.

Great food and beer
Good food, service, beer, and atmosphere. What else does one need? The only negative is that the pretzels could be bigger. looking forward to returning.

My favorite nyc german
This place is the best for german standards, and the atmosphere is very convivial. The staff can be hard to find, but at least they are laid-back and attitude-free. f.y.i. "phissten": schweinebraten is pork, not beef.

Yum!
I had a craving for good German food and beer, and wasn’t let down by Zum Schneider. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff helped complete the experience. Their beers are sizable, as are the entrees, although I love spaetzel and tend to order that when we go. My boyfriend has gotten a few other things, and they have been tasty as well. I recommend the pretzels and mustard, which are delicious. It’s a nice place for hanging out with friends, and although it’s not on the cheap side, we keep finding ourselves there. Do be aware that they only take cash, so stock up before heading in there as it can get expensive.

Tasty Schweinebraten
I was complimenting the owner for the schweinbraten and he told me that he uses organic beef. It sure makes a difference, it is extremely flavorable and so tender and moist. Great beer.

Hoodies, foodies and brew
Zum Schneider is a wonderful part of the wild ethnic mix of people and food in this neighborhood. Great, filling German food, pronounced authentic by my Berlin friends. I didnt love beer, till I found two really delicious ones here - Kolsch and Jever. Watch out, if you say you want a big one, the glass is the size of a big tomato juice can! There is also a decent wine list and some cute kir drinks. For food, my favorite is the Wienerschnitzel, enormous, perfectly crisp, squirted with lemon. Husband likes any pork or beef entree in deep, significant gravy. Kid likes the spaetzle (homemade noodles) and the omlette with the dumpling in it. The accompanying green salad, to clean your arteries, has a refreshing dressing. Also love the veggie dumplings and salads. We have taken clients, parents and out of town guests here, they were totally charmed. Special events are extra fun and extra crowded. Go early. One of the nicest times is 1 PM brunch on weekends.

Good beer
This is a fun place to go. But the sauerkraut was practically inedible. Good sausages, however. If you're into German food, check it out.
