Thought I would deal but Yummy

I read an article in a magazine about Ethiopia and its food. I had it a couple of times before- one good and one very bad. After reading the article I thought I would give it another try. I took my boyfried who is less than adventurous when it comes to food. The reviews of this place looked great and we gave it a try. The food was wonderful, service was excellent. The staff gave excellent recommendations and made sure that we had a variety. At the end of the meal, my boyfriend said "boy I thought I was just going to get through this dinner. . .but. . .but this was yummy. When can we come back. " I never have seen him excited about any restaurant especially one that cost way less than the average New York City restaurant. Its just a terrific place.

    Great Place- Great Food

We had reservations for 7:30, and we had a to wait a little for our table. We did not mind at all because this place has a great vibe and a great bar. We had a nice time chatting until our table was ready. The service was friendly, and the food was great. I'm a vegetarian, and I loved the vegetarian platter. Great flavors that went really well together. My friends had the meat platter and said it was equally good. We did not feel rushed at all by the wait staff, and had a really great meal. Also, the food was not greasy so, even though the portions were a good size, I never felt uncomfortably full. A rare acheivement! Highly recommend making the trip!

    Great Food!

To the reviewer below: injera is supposed to be cold. that is the traditional way. i guess reviews, like opinions, are like a*******s, everyone has one and they all stink! the food here is great and highly recomended!

    great atmosphere

the waitress was super attentive, my water was constantly refilled and the washcloth was brought out immediately. i really liked how my entree, the special kitfo, was served with extra seasonings. the food was pretty good and served promptly, but the injera was cold and tasteless. i think it was leftover from the night before and not even reheated. i went on a saturday around noon and was the only person there. because of the trendy decor and extensive bar i imagine this place is more of nighttime hangout than a good place to go just for food. i would go back, but there are other places i would prefer to go to. great customer service!

    pay for decor

pretty good food-less greasy than most and of superior quality to more established restaurants like queen of sheba-but not quite great. Ambiance, however, is amazing. The best place I have been to w/respect to decor. Drinks a tad bit expensive for Harlem--but otherwise on par as far as cost with the more established ethiopian restaurants. Overall, I'd go back.

    tasty!

Right then-thanks, Elodie, for the viewpoint outside of US borders...some of us can actually see past our own noses...yes, excellent food overall. The dishes are of a substantial size, the toasted injera (name escapes me at the moment) is delicious! (Dinner partner and I figured it tastes exactly like cheese that has melted off a grilled cheese sandwich in the pan and has fried a bit...heavenly!) The right touch of seasoning on everything. My only complaint is with lamb and goat-often smaller pieces which are bony and have too much fat on them for my taste-but once you get a big bite of meat it is so tender, juicy and flavourful. The space is lovely, if not a little noisy once packed (but really, where is it not noisy when packed?) with lovely wall pieces, lighting and an attractive backlit bar. They do not stock everything they should, (can't get a Manhattan) and the bar service takes far, far too long. However, the honey wine is spectacular, and as another diner pointed out, the floor is terribly understaffed. They really do the best they can. overall, great spot-go earlier rather than later.
