We had planned on dining at a popular tapas spot on 19th street but the noise and the 45 minute wait sent us out into the ridiculously hot street. Several doors east we found Zio. We were desperate for ac and a table and were willing to compromise on the food. Zio was a wonderful surprise. Everything we ordered was terrific: a fabulous sardine special, a perfect orecchiette with octopus, an excellent side of mushrooms., and a great spinach salad. The pizza was a bit odd- the crust tastes like matzo.but since we ordered the smoked salmon version, even that worked. The service was terrific: considerate without being overwhelming. Best of all -we could hear each other! Forget the tapas places and try Zio instead.

A friend and I hosted a fortieth birthday party this past weekend at Zio. We called a number of places but found the owners at Zio were easy to deal with and extremely helpful, working with us over the past few weeks to choose the proper setting in the restaurant (options available to us were table, private room or section of restaurant by bar area) and set the menu at our price point which they were mindful to meet. We ended up choosing the front section of the restaurant by the bar/kitchen area and found that the place had an awesome vibe (which we were hoping for) and super cool décor. The open kitchen added life too. On the food front we had a selection of appetizers which were delicious with highlights including lamb burgers, crab cakes, rice balls (of course!) and a ridiculous grilled pizza. Entrees served included tasty pastas with meat and veggie options as well as a yummy risotto that was a real crowd pleaser. My friends are continuing to tell me how solid the food was. Overall the service was top notch and the owners were attentive to all of our needs. Zio was a solid pick for the occasion and without questions blew away my expectations. I wouldn’t hesitate to have another party there or to recommend to others.

I had the $20 three course lunch and was treated like royalty. The staff were very attentive and the meatballs were the best I have tasted. The decor is simple but elegant. Loved it.

Good effort by the host and some of the staff, but this place has a way to go. Calamari overly-battered, "pizza" was like matzah, pasta was served cold, filet was dry (why is that on the menu?) desserts were boring and white wine suggested by waiter was undrinkable.

This restaurant is not good. The food is bland and uninteresting, the service is slow and failing at its attempt to be old-world, and the totally unfitting soundtrack of 90's soft contemporary/techno/Black Eyed Peas kills it. And it is ridiculously overpriced. Expect it to close soon.

This place is really a must try and I highly recommend for anyone. Besides the great location, the food is authentic Italian and the service and space is truly amazing! If you need a private room for a party as well - this is one of the nicest I have seen in NYC!! I will definitely be back for sure!!

Well, I hate to do it...but really not impressed. For the prices 1) the food is ok 2) the service left a lot to be desired. While I understand it is a new space and certain growing pains exist. Don't be that big if you can't handle it and PLEASE don't charge those prices. More than a few times we were left without proper utensils and more importantly drinks. Even if mistakes happen (which they do and of course I forgive) but we are a party of ten, all live in NYC - comp us something! throw a little bone for smart business. Not one of us will return to the location. Place needs to get a grip - it may do ok because of great location. Sorry....this is NY, plenty of other places to go
