Expensive & Tasteless, but Nice Staff, and Convenient Location
I have a big problem with this place. It satisfies my laziness, being that it is conveniently located 7 floors below my office, but not my desire to eat food that tastes like things that are food. I'm genuinely mystified as to why people rave about this place so much. Yes, Zeytuna does have a wide range of options. It's part fancy grocery store, part sandwich deli, part mini-bakery, part grill, part salad bar (and the ever-changing salad bar has some unique dishes). Basically a huge fancy bodega/deli. HOWEVER--and this is A GIANT HOWEVER--almost all of their food is tasteless. I'm tricked on a daily basis by how nice everything looks and by the creative dishes they come up with, but I have not once been satisfied with the food. Some of their sandwiches are OK, albeit the paninis are too greasy (and they have pre-made sandwiches that also aren't bad, but not great for those who are sandwich-obsessed like I am), but the salad bar and hot food buffet are NOT worth your money. The pizza at the hot deli is also mediocre, but I haven't really spent the time to try all the options. They do have higher end and vegan/vegetarian/health food products in their meat, cheese, dairy and veggie section, which is nice, but it's small and they pack a lot of different types of products, so you don't have much selection for any one thing. Don't go here if you are on a budget. Speaking of, I also have an issue with their prices. I guess, being from Brooklyn, I should (maybe???) accept this as "the way it is" in the Financial district of Manhattan, but $5 for a small cup of mediocre deli soup seems pricey to me. I suppose we are paying for convenience, but the price of everything from yogurt to crackers to fruit is more expensive than I pay anywhere else. It may only be by a quarter, but that adds up. I should probably have mentioned this earlier, but I do like all the employees and counter staff. They are all friendly and they are pretty quick and efficient, which is good because this place is a tight fit and the aisles are very small. I advise you not to try to go to Zeytuna at lunch time (1 pm especially) if you don't like crowds--or ever if you appreciate food with a taste.

Cheeky tip
Wide menu, food delicious and very good value for money. But a service charge on the bill for 2 diners? Cheeky! Watch out because it's easy to miss on the bill.

Great Food But Watch Out for "Service Charge"
Recently had lunch here. Great food and excellent atmosphere. However, completely turned off by "service charge" on the receipt that the staff failed to advise about. Apparently, they tack on a 15% gratuity for anyone who has lunch there, regardless of the # of guests (we had only 2). When we commented that they should really tell people about this unusual practice, they simply shrugged and smiled. Hopefully, they will listen.

Careful - tip included in bill for ALL parties
Food is good; service is fine; but be careful as they very quietly will add the tip onto your bill as a service charge and not tell you. They will do this for ALL sit down customers no matter how much (or little) food you get.

zeytuna good
They look like they should be really expensive but they're not. It's like a gourmet-food lovers candy-land. Weird little things here and there make a fun experience but you can easily leave with something plebian like a diet Dr. Pepper.

Great Spot
This place is very enjoyable. The food is very tasty and my party of three enjoyed all of our dishes, including the appetizers and desserts. The atmosphere is enjoyable and the decor is very charming. The service is very competent. I really cant say anything bad about this place.

a unique and great place to eat
I have gownto love Zey tuna. It is decorative and the food is interesting and made healthy. I can get many ideas from them. I was introduced to foods from other cultures and the shopping area may be expensive but it is so interesting and I cannot stop looking at all the unique produce. I think this store has more than a small supermarket because they use their space. The people who work there are polite and pleasant, too. All in all Zey Tuna is a real unique New York experience and I love it.
