best affordable sushi spot!
Ever since I came to Zen 5 years ago, I could not stop coming! They really do have not only great tasting sushi, but also the best value--all sushi is 50% off daily. I've tried multiple rolls on their menu, but my FAVORITES (I order these every time I go!) are the Titanic and Philadelphia roll. I highly recommend them (they are on the "POP CREATIONS" menu). The ingredients are always fresh and full of flavor. I have never been disappointed! Service can be slow for dinner (it can get crowded on weekdays) but I've found that the best time to go is on a Saturday for lunch. At that time, service is always fast and there aren't as many people. In terms of appearance, it really is a hole in a wall that is most frequented by locals, but if you are looking for great sushi without emptying your wallet, this is the place to be. I have sworn off going to all other sushi spots!

Good cheap sushi
Good sushi for the value. Should be noted there is a $20 minimum for pick-up and delivery which means you have to order a lot of stuff to reach the minimum!

If you are nuts about sushi...
and want to eat a lot of it without going broke, definitely go to Zen. I go at least once a week, and would have gone more if I have time/live in the area. The half-price sushi is one of the best deals I've found in the city, considering the quantity and the quality. I recommend the titanic rolls. Their entrees are also very nice, reasonably priced. Of course they are not the best out there, but could possibly be the best out there at this price. I recommend the spicy ramen. Could be cramped since they are so popular, and the wait can be long at peak hours (weekend evenings), but I think it's worth the wait. I see other people complaining about the service - I think the service is fine if you don't expect that of a 5-star restaurant. They are efficient, not super friendly but I like it because they don't bother me. Food is pretty fast when not crowded, ok during peak hours. Bottom line is: try their half-price sushi, you will keep coming back for more.

Good Cheap Sushi
I went to school in the area so I ended up coming here a lot. The food quality is excellent for the price. My favorite roll is the Titanic roll (a spicy tuna roll with salmon and avocado on the outside with a sweet soy sauce). It is absolutely delicious, and you cannot beat the 50[%] off sushi. Like people have stated the service is not the best (but come on, what did you expect from a half price sushi place? Be realistic. If you want service spend 250 and go to Per Se) There is also a garden in the back which they open up in the summer months. You'd be really hard pressed for service there, but its nice when you have time to kill and want to eat/hang out in peace. The decor is not the best ... but who really looks at decor on St. Marks? This place can get really packed on weekends, so I recommend an off day or hour if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle. Zen is a great little place. I've got my friends to love it too. Even though I don't live in that area anymore I make trips back to it just for Zen. Sometimes you just want that cheap sushi : )

Good rolls for the price of service
My date and I were one of very few groups of people eating at this small but comfortable St. Mark's restaurant. However, within a minute of being seated, I could tell our waitress was eager to get us out as quickly as possible so that she could read her newspaper behind the bar in peace. Furthermore, when asked for recommendations for appetizers and rolls, she responded with a quizzical look and by saying that "all of the rolls are good." Thanks for narrowing that one down. We ordered an appetizer of hijiki, which had a pleasant sesame flavor, and followed that with three different rolls, two of which contained eel. Both were very good, though not as large as I had hoped; the inclusion of mango was a refreshing addition to the oily eel, however. Still a tad hungry, we ordered a spider roll, which was very tasty; my first experience with soft shell crab. As stated before though, service was at an all time low, and despite the fact that there was a huge ratio of empty tables to occupied ones, and no sign of them filling up, my date and I still felt rushed by our waitress, who had our check ready to be delivered before we had even finished ordering. Might I suggest takeout?

one word
delicious...the half price sushi are to die for.. try the shrimp tempura roll and the spider rolls...they're about 4 bucks for ea roll after the half price and it's so worth it..the dinner boxes are also awesome..i come here with my boyfriend all the time...perhaps not the best place to take someone out for a first date or when u're really hungry because it takes a while to get your food especially when the place is packed...
