service needs improvement
Dined here Friday night w/ friends. Food is consistently good, however, the service was subpar! Our server, although sweet, did not take our wine order until we asked for wine, appetizers and bottle of wine came out at the same time -- horrible and even more horrible for the sales in the restaurant - didn't need another bottle of wine w/ dinner since it arrived so late. Bus boys tried to clear the places before all at the table were done (we stopped them) and cleared the milk and sugar off the table way before coffee/dessert was even finished. We had to get up to find them (or the waiter) for more sugar. If they improve the service, the restaurant would be amazing but it's impossible to enjoy a meal when followed by poor service.

Awesome
I was introduced to the York Grill by friends. Initially I couldn't believe the praises they continually gave to an out of the way "neighborhood restaurant"...I quickly found out why. From the service, food, atmosphere and value it exceeded all expectations. We went mid-week, I dined on the three course prix fixe that the waiter (Lance) described in detail and noted that the same generous portions and care went into the preparation...it was a REAL DEAL...a welcome find during this recession. I can't wait to return.

Disappointed again
I have been going to York Grill for years, but the food that used to be good, continues to go down hill. They refuse to have a bar menu even in this economy, and their new Chef's Table menu is mediocre at best. Stick with having a drink at the bar, it's still fun (for the older set), but go elsewhere for dinner.

Lovely consistently good place
I have had so many great meals at York Grill so many times over so many years that I can't even remember how far back they opened. I read some of the reviews and wonder if these people have been in the same restaurant that I have been going to? The service is so far above many higher priced establishments in this city. Almost all of the servers have been there for a very long time and are wonderful at what they do. These are people who want you to have a great experience and return over and over again. The food is excellent quality and the desserts are exceptional. I agree that it would be nice to have a new dessert every now and then, but sometimes some items on the menu get dropped and through popular demand, make it back on to the menu (like the gorgonzola bread). The hosts are gracious as can be and the bartender is terrific. We have never had a less than ideal experience either at the bar area or in the very comfortable dining room. Thank goodness that I have York Grill in my neighborhood!

Skimpy Brunch
What a sad, skimpy brunch we had today at the formerly generous York Grill. What used to be a delicious bread basket is now reduced to 4 small slices of cornbread/muffins. When I asked our very agreeable waiter for rolls, he found some from the dinner service, but they were limp and tasteless. Since only "breadbasket"', mimosa/juice and main course are included in the $20 price, our brunch was basically a very average $20 hamburger and a quite small portion of very average $20 grilled salmon over a few greens. The service was lovely (very sweet waiter), but we were very very disappointed and would neither return nor recommend the York Grill. What happened??

Nice Meeting Place
Dined @ York Grill on Sunday night with some friends ... a birthday letter in the mail offering me a free bottle of champagne for my birthday took me here ... and always does; year after year! What a great marketing idea ... especially in this economy ... giving away something instead of charging more for something. Great food, excellent service -- the owner can be a bit gruff, but other than that ... go, go, go ... and fill out the birthday card so you, too, can get a bottle of champagne on the house!

Excellent... always tried and true!
We have eaten here over 10 times and have never been disappointed. This is a tried and true neighborhood place where you know you can get excellent, fairly priced food. The specials are unique, fresh and typically amazing. The regular menu is also outstanding from the calamari appetizer to the gorgonzola bread and pork entree. Everything is de-lish. The only downside is the desserts... kind of plain and not too exciting. They should have interesting dessert specials instead of just the standard cheesecake, pound cake, carrot cake options. Nonetheless, this is definitely one of our standard restaurant choices!
