My significant other is Mandarin, so I eat at a lot of Chinese food. There's a difference between cuisine and fast food. YIPS is in the latter category and, in Midtown, is one of a few (out of the many) Chinese fast food resturants that brings me back time and again because the fast food quality is very good and you get a lot for around $6.00. Even when they're busy, which is often during the early noon hours, I find the staff cordial and patiently helpful in offering the customer what they might like to dine from their vast steamtable items. During the many, many times I've been to YIPS I've never had a bad encounter (although some people are hard to please; but that's some people ... and its important to note if they're repeat customers or just having a bad day :) Also, there is enough tables and seating for about 30-plus diners in a well-lit, relatively comfortable and deep dark wood eating area. Nothing is delapidated, YIPS is what it is: Inexpensive, fast Chinese food in a leisurely setting . I highly recommended the place. Its very good, or to put it in Mandarin: Su han how.

Just went to this place for lunch based on the Menupages reviews, but I wish I hadn't - the food is the totally greasy, fried Americanized corner takeout Chinese variety, but worst of all, it has no flavor. I'm eating chicken and broccoli that tastes like plain boiled chicken. The steamed veggies (I got bok choy) have no flavor. The beef chow mein is greasy without any real taste. Will definitely stick to my old Chinese place nearby.

I stopped by to pick out a few things from the buffet. Brought my food to the cashiers and they stood there having a conversation, making me wait. When one cashier was finally ready, she barked the amount at me. Could not see the amount displayed on the cash register and was suspicious that the amount was exactly $6.00. The food was mediocre. The place is dark and dingy.

when it comes to chinese food at cheap prices, you cant beat yips. at lunch time, its always packed, the food keeps coming in fresh and one thing thats good - theyre always consistent and never change anything up. if youre ever craving anything, theyll always have it, and cheap. for those that dont like buffets, they also have an order section.

Everything is fresh and delicious. The buffet-table has many selections and each one is good. Also, the prices are cheap. This place offers great overall value.

The food at Yips is great. Those who are on a budget, or should be will love this place. One order can last for the day or if you're like me and you eat a lot, it's money well spent!
