I've been to every popular sushi restaurant in Manhattan, and this is my go-to place. Sure, the fish is slightly better at Sushi Yasuda, but the price-value equation at Yama is unbeatable. Sometimes you're not in the mood to pay $100, right? Prices are low, the fish is incredibly fresh, and the portions are generous. It's a great value, not just for sushi, but for any Manhattan meal. I regularly eat here and stuff myself for under $40. One important note: the Irving Place location is miles better than the others. Get to know Mickey, and you're golden.

Went to this place after reading the menu here, seemed cheap and to have big pieces. Sure, the pieces are big, but lunch for two ordering what I thought based on prices on the menu here to be $30 or $40 cost $92. I was dumbstruck. Prices weren't on the menu when I got there -- VERY expensive, probably it's become a tourist trap. Stick to orders on the menu w/ clear prices.

Once you have eaten at Yama, you will never go back to those sushi hangouts frequented by the masses.

Yama has the best sushi in the city. It's not even close. The size of the sushi alone is a sight not to be missed. I always order one of their special miso soups as well and it's delicious. The place gets way too crowded at times, but the food is worth the wait.

I can't imagine giving Yama a bad review. They are VERY generous with their portions, and the fish are of high quality. This place is amazing. I personally recommend going for the Yama special rolls, those are unique and mouthwatering. It's worth your money!

It's pretty bad really. Sushi for two is a lot of food but that doesn't make it good.

The quality of the fish is top notch and always is............Obviously the person who posted above has no clue about sushi and would rather eat deli sushi. I am telling you hands this place is definitely top in the city food wise. Yeah the scenery isn't Tao but the food is great and I hit it up every week.
