    The Best

I've tried all the places in city...Nobu, Sushi of Gari, Haru, Samba, Seki, etc. Yama is hands down the best of them all. They have the freshest fish every time I go. I recommend sitting at the bar because if you are going to Yama you are going for the food not for the ambiance.

    Best Sushi - Poor Atmosphere

Yama on Irving is my favorite Sushi spot in the city. The prices are somewhat high but the quality of the sushi is unmatched by other spots in the neighborhood. I do notice if I take out, the portions are smaller but when I eat there the fish is so fresh and tasty. The only real problem is the ambiance. They should seriously think about renovating that space. The carpets and walls are filthy and the space is cramped. A+ to the food!

    What happened to this place?

Used to be pretty good, but now the sushi chefs just slop the sushi together in a big mess to get people in and out as fast as possible. Was pretty good years ago, but has seriously gone down hill.

    TOTALLY WORTH THE MONEY!!!

Every time I try to cheap out and go somewhere a little less expensive, I regret it. Yama is worth the price. Be prepared, it is a cramped space, long wait, and a bit snooty. But, trust me, Yama is worth it.

    Food good, Service issues

Where to start... the moment we walked into the restaurant, the maitre d was very rude. He treated my friends and I as if we were little kids! When he was about to seat us, he yelled out across the restaurant saying, "Hey you! You! Come here. Follow me!" Who in their right minds seats a customer like that?? The waiters were totally inattentive... the atmosphere was not ideal. The tables, floors and the booth we sat at was very dirty and sticky! Besides that, the food was good, but very over priced!

    Great food, stinky clothes

Very easy review, really great sushi but we left smelling terrible. I know it is the winter, the place is small and basically underground but I shouldnt have to wash and dry clean everything I was wearing because it smelled like food and fish, yuck! The food was awesome but I am not sure when I will return. We smelled so bad the people we met for drinks after dinner even commented on it.
