    Awesome Midtown Yakitori

Can't go wrong for a fun night with friends or a date. Often a wait, but you can give your number and have a drink at mcgee's across the street while you wait.

    what went wrong?

no more charcoal cooking of the skewer orders, no more organic Berkshire pork . walked in last night, lady at door screamed at us. What you doing here. I believe it is under new ownership... prices have hit the roof, while food quality has a new low.. I have been going to this place for years! It is not the same Yakitori Totto

    One of Our Favorites

This place came on high recommendation from my sister-in-law who is Japanese (and furthermore knows great food). We have dined at Yakitori Totto twice now and both times were spectacular. Yes, there were a few times we couldn't find our waiter to order more food but when he was around he was great. The hostess was very friendly as were the men cooking behind the bar. We really enjoyed: Chicken Meatball (sans the quail egg) Skirt Steak Chicken Liver Chicken Oyster Bacon Wrapped Asparagus and the old standby, Edamame. It was all lovely and we can't wait to return.

Its tiny piece of meat on a skewer, you aint Picasso

Read all the reviews bout the crappy service but i'm such a glutton for yakitori that i figured i'd check it anyway. My buddy backed out so I said table for one. They sat me between two couples, wouldn't let me sit at the bar, I'm a big guy so my elbows were practically in the other peoples dishes. I'm pretty sure i ruined their dinner. I ordered bout 50 dollars worth of food. Tasted pretty good, but its TINY. you'll need to eat a lot of skewers to fill up. My girl shows up, sits at my table. we order another 40 dollars worth of food. What happens next is funny. The waitor reads me a lecture. "you said you were one, but now there are two of you, that is not right, i get in trouble....etc" I'm like, what the hell is the matter with you, its not as if you're gonna sit someone at my table anyway. and were both eating. he says i misslead him. Hey buddy, dont you know that peoples plans change. Its not as if i asked for the table. I asked for the bar, which remained empty by the way till i left 2 hours later. Never again will i come here to get lectured by some tool after ordereing stupid skewers. You people have some nerve.

    Spectacular food, terrific services

The food here is absolutely amazing! The best Yakitori I've ever had! I go here AT LEAST once a week, and can eat here day and night if I had the option to do so. I completely disagree with the service reviews below... the service is great! They're always packed, do you expect them to invent a seat for you when it doesn't exist or to break someone's reservation? Be patient and you will eat some delicious stuff!

    rude service

I just came back from eating here. I also agree with the rest of the reviewers that the service here is bad. My friend and I went after it opened 15 mins and the place with not full at all. We were sitted near the door at the bar. I ask the hostress if it ok if we sit at the table. She said it was reserved. I was ok with that and ask if we could sit futher down the bar where it wasn't that cramp. She said those were reserved as well. I know that was a lie, she was just too lazy to move our menu. During all that time when we were there, no body came in to sit at the tables. I think I read somewhere that they don't even take reservations. To top it all off they forgot one of the dish we order and ask if we still want it. We both said, "no". I felt we were rushed out of the restaurant and never ask if we want dessert. This will be the last time we come back here. The food wasn't the greatest and not worth it for rude service. My friend was still hungry afterwards so the portions are small for a grand total of $65 dollars. We didn't even order drinks. Subpar service+ small expensive portions= unhappy customers. Not worth it at all.

Next best Yakitori I can get without being in Japan.

Yakitori and Kishiyaki not being the most sophisticated dish in Japanese cuisine is totally understated and insulted. My family goes to the best Yakitori restaurant in Tokyo and surrounding area (I was born and raised in Tokyo) and am very picky about how it's done. This is one of the closest place to the world best Yakitori I'm used to. (By the way the other one demands a course meal and is completely stuffy...) Good organic chicken, comfy menu, the selection of the grill they use... the effort they put in their food makes this restaurant very valuable for people like us (True Japanese who knows what they serve). I wish this place was bigger with more staff who has time to explain to those who have no knowledge yet decide to come to specialty Yakitori restaurant over common Japanese sake bar or Izakaya. (Or even go to other sushi restaurants that proudly serve chicken Teriyaki and Tempura!) This is my favorite place after going there last 6 years, maybe they are nicer to me because I know what I want or maybe they remember me since I've been there many times or maybe, just maybe because I tried to get there when it's not so busy and be respectful... but my experience in this place is not-so-horrible but always rather good. I took many of my non Japanese friends there and they all liked it too. Again, I think you should know the food before you go though. Not by every menu but the whole idea of "Authentic Japanese food".
