Good Food Bad Service
Met up here w/a group of friends b4 heading to Angels & Kings. Nice, tiny, spot. Huge menu. Good tapas. OK sangria. BAD service! I know people let that slide sometimes when t/food is good but I always expect good service (and I don't mind tipping for it) especially when we are a group and ordering 5, 10, 15+ items off of the menu. Including drinks! The waiter would get one drink order and then take off before we could give him another person's drink order. Did the same thing with the food. We didn't get all of the food items that we ordered but they DID end up on the bill. We resolved that of course but I don't like to be made to feel like I'm bothering the waiter by expecting to be waited on and served. Just my thoughts... I understand they also have flamenco dancing here. Unfortunately we left before this started but would've been nice to see.

Great place for a big group!
First: Though the spot is tiny, it has real character. The net covered roof to the round wooden tables, to the great service, go hear for fun and drink. The menu is huge, with several great options. The flavors on some tapas were hit and miss, but overall most dishes hit the spot. The bechemel croquettes were top notch. The sangria was perfect and they have a great selection of alcoholic temptations. Enough cant be said of the service, because they were helpful and quick and helped us enjoy the experience.

For real (Spanish) Tapas lovers (only)
Xunta is the real deal in terms of providing authentic Spanish tapas at fair-to-affordable prices. Yes, I know tapas means "small portion/plate" so technically anyone can serve tiny plates and call it 'tapas,' but there is shocking dearth of authentic Spanish tapas in this city. On the food level, Xunta delivers. They also deliver laid back 'traditional' Spanish service, for which they are justifiably pilloried. Frankly it's amazing that all of your food choices actually arrive, but eventually they do. The one atmosphere saving grace is that the ambience is quite energetic on Thursday through Saturday and the live flamenco dancing. Go here with people you like for real Spanish tapas you'll love, or don't go at all.

I was embarassed to reccomend this place
The service at Xunta was pretty poor. We had ordered a bottle of wine and our first round of tapas but didn't have room on the small surface for two plates, and the hostess told us ''too bad'' and that they weren't a big meal restaurant. Really? You aren't equipped to serve more than one plate at a time at a tapas bar?

Last night I had dinner with four friends at Xunta. I had called earlier in the day to try to make a reservation, but they said they weren’t taking anymore and to just walk in. We arrived a little after 8:30 to learn it would be about 45 minutes for a table. We had a couple of rounds of drinks at the bar, as we watched people who were long finished with their meals keep their tables occupied, and empty tables being held for reservations that never arrived. Finally after an hour and a half we were seated at a table. A table with four chairs – there were five of us. One person had to stand for 15 minutes until they found another table for us. They finally moved us to another table, but it was so close to the table next to us that I had to suck in my stomach just to get in. The food arrived fairly quickly, but wasn’t anything special. We asked for water for the table and got one glass to share. When the bill arrived I asked the waitress if they could help us with a round of drinks or something, she looked at me and said “You do not have any right to ask that. We won’t take anything off.” Granted we chose to stay, but we spent a lot of money in their restaurant and they could have done a little something for the inconveniences. Service was rude.

Lots of good to choose from for a little
Great variety of tapas plates in modest but filling and very tasty portions; even enough selection for a non-fish eater, such as myself. One large or cava portion of Sangria should last even a party of four the whole night. Flamenco dances were scheduled for 6:30 and 9:30 on Saturday, but expect a delay (over 45 min when we left). Don't sit around for too long before ordering because as it gets busy the service gets stretched a little thin. Seating is either at tall chairs around a large wooden barrel or a picnic style table which adds to the ambiance but may be a little uncomfortable and for table space it means you will need to finish off your servings if you plan to order a lot of different things. The earlier you get there (we tried 8:30pm with no problems) the better your chance of getting a table with less available for groups over 4.
