food and drinks were fine, but the service is lacking. i went on a recent weeknight and chose to sit at the bar, thinking that this would ensure speedy service. wrong. there does not seem to be a concept of a bartender in this place. all the servers worked the bar and the restaurant which seemed to guarantee that neither area was served well. hire a bartender!

The food at Xai Xai was good, the service is fast and the staff are friendly. Honestly, Braai is better

First of all, if you are going to take most things off your menu, shouldn't you reflect that in your online menu? Online there was a huge dinner menu with tons of vegetarian options but when we got there. Waitress said they changed it 3 months ago and most of it was gone. It was now just apps and tapas style entress. Ok fine. I'm flexible. Not her fault and she was sweet. So ordered an app and sandwich that she was kind enough to make vegetarian. Unfortunately, it was barely cooked onion, pepper, unripe avocado and a slab of Brie on stale toasted white bread for $9. Really? Didn't eat it and politely let her know it wasn't very good. (I hate when people get nasty with waitresses for things that aren't their fault. ) But they charged us for the $9 chicken sandwich (hold the chicken) that I didn't even eat! This place...terrible. Feel bad for the waitress as I'm sure she's not doing well there.

I've been to South Africa and can tell you aside from the people and the beauty of the landscape it is a wonderful exotic place rich with great food and delicious wines. Xai Xai does a great sampling of some of the finest wines of the areas. They offer 3 different options for pours. One as a glass, One a carafe (glass ++) and one as a bottle. All reasonably priced. It is a great way to sample the endles options on their list. They touch upon the food in the best way. Tapas. For just $9 you have wonderful samplings of traditional bunny chow, biltong, artisanal cheeses, frikidales to name a few. The ambiance is that of a jungle in Africa, with their candle lit space lined with cypruss trunks and dark wood. Even if your not in the mood for wine they offer delicous vintage cocktails that never dissapoint. Get this--Happy Hour everyday!! $1 Oysters. So to those who say"dissapointed" I beg to differ. This is a definite score for a date or a great place for a meet up. Escaping Hell's Kitchen Safari style.

I was excited when this place opened up just a block from my house and I couldn't wait to try it out. My friend and I went in on a saturday night. It was pretty slow and we sat at a table that could seat four people, which we thought would be fine since no one else was waiting and they told us to 'sit wherever we were comfortable'. As we were looking at the menu three different waiters/waitresses came up to us and asked, 'would we be more comfortable' at one of the tables in the corner that are designed for two people, in other words, would we get up and move so they could fit more people into the place. I understand that space is an issue and asked if they needed the table because we would be happy to move, but they kept reassuring us that they just wanted us to be comfortable. Then, finally, a waiter came over and said rudely, 'we need you to move to the side.' We started to follow him, but decided to just leave. The menu looked nice but the wine was really over priced and the glasses were a bit stingy. I had really hoped that this would be a fun place in the neighborhood, but I won't go back.

First and last time here. As someone else mentioned, when asking for a wine suggestion, the $19 250ml glasses seem to be pushed. I didn't have anything I couldn't have bought elsewhere for under $20 for the bottle. Service went thusly: one of my party still had a glass from the bar so when we were seated, the server didn't offer menus or more glasses to anyone. 15 minutes later, server reappeared and got menus upon being asked for them. Ordered a very expensive cheese plate and a subpar dipping plate and more wine. Never saw server again. Had to ask host for the check. Unfortunately, I am the type of person who, once burned by the service, will not return to the restaurant.

had a great night here with friends - but people have definitely caught on because it is full all night. Even with the crowd, the service was attentive and gracious. The wines were impressive. The food was just ok- they really could improve the portions and menu items. overall fun time!
