Great food at a good value

My family and I went to the Woodburning pit on a Saturday night. We were 4 adults and 2 kids and ate a lot of food and drank Portuguese beer and only paid $100. We had chicken, ribs, steak and pork chops. We though everything was delicious. The place is small but the owner's wife moved some tables around and she found a cozy place for all of us. The waitress was very friendly.

    The Pit

After reading the two previous reviews, I had expectations of a decent meal, decent service and a decent place. I'm sorry to say that none of those expectations were met. The place is small and most of the space is taken up by the grill and the kitchen; leaving very little room for the undersized tables, chairs, or customers. Well we decided to eat in the so called "garden". Nothing growing out there; no trees plants flowers or grass, absolutely nothing that would qualify as a garden. So there we sat surrounded by concrete with about as much atmosphere as a prison yard. For an appetizer I had the Sausage which were extremely fatty and very bland. Here comes my entree; the steak with rice and beans on the side. Whoops the waitress bungles the tray and the grease and oil go all over me. No problem the owners wife tells me "accidents happen" and we should just "move on" Ok, lets move on. The waitress, who was not qualified to serve french fries in burger king, gave me a couple tissues and a lame apology. I decided that since I was late and needed to eat something I would try to get something down and get out of that place. That was as tough as the steak. I mean they serve food on metal plates! Bad enough the steak was over done and had almost no flavor, but metal plates? Then I figured it out that they were doing this whole prison theme. Or maybe it was dog pound theme? Ruff rough ruff!! In any case, everything was so disappointing, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. "Thank you for coming" the owner said obliviously to us on our way out.

    Great Find!

Ate here last night and was so pleasantly surprised. There aren't a whole lot of options in the area and this is certainly a welcome addition. We sat in the backyard garden which was simple and relaxed. I had the 1/2 chicken and ribs combo which came with fries and rice (I got salad instead of rice for $2 more, not really worth it, especially when I tasted my date's rice - yum). The food was really good! It's so flavorful, especially the chicken, and cooked well too. The ribs were also very good. I wasn't exactly sure what Portuguese bbq would be like - it's not at all sweet like American bbq, just really flavorful, more savory. The portions are huge, we both had enough leftovers for dinner tonight. My date also liked his Portuguese beer, and get this - beers are only $3.50! Great food, amazing value and nice atmosphere. I will definitely be back.

    A hidden gem

Excellent food in a quiet out of the way place on 5th Ave. in Bay Ridge. This Portugese barbecue is as good as any place in Lisbon. I have been there three times and they are very consistent. Very large portions, friendly and efficent service and very reasonable.
