Good food, incredibly rude, pushy, and rushed service
Make no mistake, the food here is very good. We had the Special Kalbi, Bulgogi, Chicken Gui, Sprimp Gui, as well as the chicken fried rice and the shrimp fried rice. Best two meats were the kalbi, and the bulgogi (the latter was the best part of the meal). Chicken was pretty good, shrimp didn't really do much for me. The fried rice dishes were ok. Now here is the problem... the waitress could not have rushed this any more. The point of going to Korean BBQ is to cook the food yourself. The first dish comes out, and she dumps half of it on the grill. We politely tell her we want to do it ourserlves... 10 minutes later, she does it again (and she mangled the meat the second time)! The bus boys were taking plates off of the table before we had finished. By the time we got the last piece of meat off of the plate, about 3 second later, we have the check. 45 second later, the waitress comes back to check if we had paid, meanwhile, we are still eating. Value was pretty good... total bill came to $144 before tip for 4 people. Not factoring in the tip, because what little we gave was generous for how much they rushed us, and how much they took it on themselves to cook.

Poor Experience
The service was subpar, definitely not attentive. The food was not worth its price and the staff actually demanded more tip from me.

poor service
First they sat us at the table closest to the door so we felt the winter breeze everytime someone came in. The experience went downhill after that. The waiter was not informative at all. We just wanted an explanation as to what some of the dishes consisted of. His attitude seemed to worsen after my gf asked for an apple martini. The coals under our bbq didn't last. They didn't clear the table until after we paid for our food. They charged us for an extra drink we didn't order. The waiter ignored our table while serving the table full of Koreans next to us. Shall I go on?

Waitress Demanded Bigger Tip
We've gone to Won Jo several times and each time had a poor experience with the service. On our last trip there we made a reservation, arrived early and still had to wait 40 minutes for a table. Then we were seated, and the service was extremely slow. It took a long time to get our menus, the barbecue we ordered, etc. Then when we finally got our food and were eating, they came to our table and said, "Please leave people are waiting for your table"!! This, even though it was their fault we'd been there so long! We gave it one more chance last night, but after this latest experience, we will never go back. We went and ate, and then after we left and were out the door, the waitress ran up to us yelling, "You didn't leave enough tip!" We were already out in the street, but she followed us and just kept shouting, "Minimum 20%! Minimum 20%!" We were so taken aback and embarrassed that we handed her an additional couple of dollars (this is on top of the already generous tip we'd left at the table, but which she apparently didn't consider adequate). That seemed to satisfy her and she went back inside. But I've never experienced anything like this.

Unpleasant experience
Went there for dinner today. The wait was OK, about 15 minutes on a Friday. Food was OK but pricey among restaurants in Koreatown. Service was bad, it was difficult to get your tea refilled. When they do refill they would only refill one cup (actually just half a cup). They never brought more side dishes (I'm not greedy but all other Korean restaurants I've tried made an effort to make sure your side dishes never go empty). Customers at nearby tables had Barbeque, but the owner didn't turn on any of their hood fans. The restaurant soon became "foggy" (or smokey perhaps?). I'm afraid the fumes I have breathed in was toxic. I have also ordered a Soon Dubu (tofu hot pot) that came atop a burner. They never bothered to turn it off. Had I not turned it off myself, the pot would have run dry. This was an unpleasant experience. Wait staff wasn't as attentive as I have seen in any other Korean restaurants.

It is too expensive...
Well this was my first time eating Korean food, and I went with 1 more friend. We waited for about 20 mins to get seated, but I understood because it was a Sat night in midtown. We wanted to just order one order of meat so me and my friend could share it incase we didnt like it and also because we both don't eat a lot. But the waiter said NO and that we must both get 2 orders,, so we accepted this. Each order was $25, which only consisted of meat and a small bowl of white rice. We had to share all the sides. The food was good, but I didn't like the fact that they were too pushy and too expensive, plus since they were all in a hurry, I was scared whenever they would change the coals and grills from table to table....but I didn't get burn!

Not a great experience
The staff is very rude and unfriendly. They rush you through a meal after waiting for a long time to seat you. The barbecue coals are authentic, yes, but it is so dangerous. They carry them in trays with tongs, and the place is so rushed and sloppy, there are accidents all over the place: spills, broken glasses, etc. The lettuce for the bul go gi was not clean, and the ban chan was American potato salad, Kimchi was not spicy at all, and wilted vegetables. Sad that I had heard so much about it but was extremely disappointed. There was surprisingly a long wait to get in, given that the service and food wasn't worth the wait. And the restaurant was not clean at all. The dining area upstairs was so dirty and almost like a bus station cafeteria. Worse even than the airport. But I had heard this was the only place in New York that had authentic coals on the barbecue. Risk your life to go there, and you don't get to eat in peace. It's very nervewracking, trying to dodge all the trays of hot red coals. I was embarrassed to have taken my best friend from LA there, on recommendations, and she was just horrified.
