I almost hate to write this good review because I don't want anyone to know how great The Wombat is, but I thought it was important since the only other review wasn't good. "Dollar oyster Mondays" is incredible. Even if you don't like them raw, the fried and grilled oysters are delicious, too. The New Zealand venison was perfectly seasoned and the baked macaroni not too rich/not too bland. The Aussie burger is a revelation, perfect balance of savory and sweet, and made to spec. With places like Walter Foods, Dumont, Roebling Tea Room around the corner Wombat is a tough (and much cheaper) competitor. The food is great, the price is right, they have nightly specials that'll please anyone. It's cash only and while I stay away from most cash-only and Amex-only eats in Williamsburg, because of the inconvenience, this place is worth it to me. I go back every single week. There's no gnocchi on this menu any longer, so I can't say I know what dish the reviewer was referring to. I have a BIG appetite and I'm always filled up when I go to Wombat.

Wombat's food was simple and wonderful. My date and I took the Prix-fix Menu and and the Tasting Menu. I took in the Mussles, Tea- Hangar Steak, and the Dessert and my date went in blind with the Tasting Menu. We were happily surprised with the pairings of food. The chef in the back paired the dishes very well. We shared the food and each plate that came was better than the last. The waiter said the food was small for the tasting menu. It was anything but small. The four dishes would satiate most hunger. The cocktails were surprisingly good. Over all I enjoyed Wombat a lot and would like to revisit the establishment.

I just tried Wombat for the first time as delivery. The person who took my order was very helpful, explained the menu, pricing, hours, and delivery options (delivery area and times, etc.) I was pleasantly surprised by the delivery because I ordered at 10pm and was eating at 10:30 (on a Friday night!) Though it was just a single order, but still, it was quick. The food was excellent. I was not disappointed by anything, and was impressed with the Wombat Potatoes as a side, just like Granny made 'em. It is moderately priced, not "cheap", but you get a good meal for a reasonable rate. I will be ordering again!

This is a little hidden treasure on grand street. I live down the block and decided to check it out. Its very rare to go into a restaurant on Grand street and get this quality of food or anywhere in the neighborhood for that matter. The servers were so nice and the food was unbelievable. I had the sweet potato gnocchi with cheese sauce and fried sage on it and it melted in my mouth. The complicated yet simple meals there are to die for and i cant wait to go back for lobster Tuesday! Please check this place out! You will not be disappointed.

I almost didn't go in thinking it was just a bar, but then noticed there was a menu posted outside so decided to give it a try. That was the best decision I could have made. It was a bit small but besides that I have nothing but great things to say about this place. I just happen to stumble in on Lobster Tuesday and ended up having that along with Sticky Pig Balls as an appetizer and the Banana Coconut dessert. Unbelievable! Even the server impressed me. Bree was her name and she was the best server I have ever had. She had an upbeat, contagious attitude with knowledge on the wine as well as all the dishes. Exactly what you want in a server. Once she found out it was our first time there she came over with shots and took one with us to welcome us. I was extremely impressed and can't wait to go back!

We went for Tuesday's lobster night & were treated to some sensational meals. Well done Wombat. Cant wait to go back & pig out again.

in my time mates but this is probably the best Aussie grub outside the great state of Victoria mate. Whether your with a date for a bit r & p.... or just watching the ruggers with mates, mate this is the place for a couple a cans and some wicked shrimp of the bar b....
