Washington Square Diner

I live near this place, and really like the guys that own it. But its really gotten to be a rip off. Items that i once got for decent price, now are on par with REAL restaurants that are not diner composition food. Suddenly i have trouble getting my FULL change from the take out guy, as their trying to get every dime as a tip. (i live one block) A burger with cheese when they're done with it ends up $16 with tip. (hows that happen for a diner!) I've been trying to keep a good feel about this place, but finally had enuf. Go only when you run out of options. Food is always decent.

Lots of choices fairly priced. Service is fast and friendly. Only gripe is the over priced and pasta dishes. Not diner food any way, delivery is fast and nearly 100% accurate.

Let me 1st say that I LOVE W.S.D. and have for well over a decade. Goodness knows how much money I have spent on delivery from there over the years (I'm not fond of the decor so never go there). The food is always perfect and outside of the clear-English-speaking answerer always handing the phone to someone who can barely speak English to take my order, the place is near perfect. But the pickles, guys, please. You are killing me. For OVER a decade when I order I say "No Pickles, please" because I don't like/eat pickles. And I'm not sure where they get their radioactive pickles but every time I order the bag has a pickle w/ cole slaw in a plastic bag and it permeates the entire bag, including all the food and my sandwich actually tastes like pickles. It's so intense that I throw the pickle away 1st in my kitchen so I can try to get rid of the pungent overtaking. The pickles are so strong that within minutes my entire apartment smells like freaking pickles and I actually have to take the pickle to the trash outside to get rid of the smell in my apartment.

Was in NY for a jazz concert right around the corner at the Blue Note. I had baked stuffed Sole, my daughter had broiled Salmon, each served with potato and perfectly cooked broccoli Both were excellent. Also had soup, salad, rolls and butter. Plus one glass of wine for total of $33 plus tip. Not gourmet fancy but clean and great personal service. An obvious local clientel.

Washington Square Diner is a super homey place and I really enjoyed eating here for breakfast/brunch last weekend. We were looking for a good lunch place and stumbled upon this place. It was a good find. My favorite thing about this place was the service - our waiter was very friendly and accommodating and also very lively. It was great. This place felt very cozy, considering the chaos in New York City. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it was pretty delicious, though it definitely needed a sauce or something, so I got some mayonnaise on the side. I really liked the cole slaw that came with the salad. I would definitely go back to Washington Square Diner. The service is super friendly and the place is definitely homey. cold day.
