I absolutely love Wa Jeal. My friends and I come hear at least a few times a month. For one the restaurant has a great atmosphere, I love taking family here. The service is always top-notch, very nice and friendly. Now onto the food - AMAZING. It's spicy - if you don't like spicy make sure you request no spice. But if you love spicy, this is your place. Some of our favorite apps include: shrimp dumplings, szechuan dumplings, and scallion pancakes. My roommate loves the chili beef but thats too spicy for me. As far as entrees go the chili prawns are awesome, the kung pao chicken is definitely my favorite, and the spicy chicken in garlic sauce is great too. I also love how the portions here are big enough to share and the prices are so reasonable. My boyfriend and I love to go share an app and an entree and the meal costs less than staying in. If you love Chinese food you have to give this place a shot.

The sesame noodles tasted like they were in a balsamic vinagrette. Spare yourself

This place had so much buzz that I couldn't wait to try it out. It wasn't just so-so: it was disappointing. Out of four aps and three main courses only one dish was up to standard, and that was reliable old (but definitely not Szechuan) spare ribs. Were we there on an off night? Maybe, but I wont be going back.

I don't know what happened, but this place had me hooked and then after the last two weeks, I stopped ordering. The spicy beef dishes had a smoke taste to them. Just changed for me, so I'll have to find someplace else.

I've been working 2 blocks from this restaurant for the past 3 years and wish I had tried it sooner! First of all, the food is delicious! I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. The lunch portions are a great value and good portion, more than I can eat in one sitting. I had the double cooked pork with chili leeks (L10) and can't say enough about how much I enjoyed it. The lettuce wrap appetizer and crab asparagus bisque were also good, but expect the bisque to be a thick broth--no cream. That might disappoint some, but I thought it was delicious all the same. I picked up rather than dining in, but the place is beautiful. Don't let the 2nd ave subway mess deter you from trying this fabulous restaurant!

I am completely obsessed with their seemingly dull sounding chef's special "stir fried chicken" which is described as sauteed with miso and thousands of chilis (which it totally is). It's UNBELIEVABLLEEE! Super spicy and savory with crisp nuggets of tender (yet dry, in a GOOD way) chicken and tingly sichuan peppercorns. Not too many peppercorns though, which have a tendency to distract with their sensory magic tricks. So, so delicious I have it far more often than I should. The space is nice, spacious, and clean, albeit somewhat cheesily decorated. Service is nice and prompt. Delivery comes quickly. So glad this place is in my neighborhood!
