Viva Herbal Pizzeria

I wrote a rave review on this site about a year ago. The Mexicali was my and my husband's favorite. It used to be absolutely original and genius. For the last 7-10 months it has been terrible. They are putting in too many jalapenos without de-seeding them--the result is way more heat than flavor. The crust tastes more like white flour than cornmeal as well. Bring the Mexicali back!

Most of my vegan food attempts have ended in disappointment and a hunger for something more, but not at Viva Herbal Pizzeria. I decided to have the $6.25 slice (though in all fairness, it's pretty big and heavily-endowed with toppings) of Zen Pizza, laced with green tea, mushrooms, pesto, tofu, and a plethora of other tasty delights. Best of all, it was all piled atop a spelt crust, perfect for a lassie like me who has a sensitivity to wheat. No, the ambience isn't exactly perfect, but the pizza is delicious, and I cannot wait to try the other unusual slices (especially the one loaded with hemp!).

Excellent pesto pizza! I enjoy the other varieties as well.

God, this pizza is absolutely the best. Seriously, get a slice of Zen and tell me you're not addicted for life.

This is fast becoming our favorite pizzeria. The value is amazing; they are so generous with the toppings. The food is creative, the crusts flavorful and seasoned. Favorites so far are the "La Vi Ta", the "Mexicali", and even the more mundane "artichokes dream" has such flavorful cheese and is extremely well seasoned. It's a vegetarian's dream, but my carnivorous boyfriend calls it "addictive". The spelt crust is smooth, the cornmeal nice and crunchy. This place rules--better than Two Boots for both original and alternative styles. What more? The people who run the storefront and do the deliveries are so nice. But the storefront is plain; this is best for delivery and takeout.

Just specify what you want carefully and its great but I asked for the fresh muzz. slice in the glass and they gave it to me and I could tell right away it was imitation cheese and argued with them until they finally said "ok maybe it's the soy muzzarela" ---- also the soy cheese pizzas are not avail by the slice so you have to order whole pie which is kind of annoying if you just want to stop in for a few slices but don't want a lactose "experience" afterwards.

We made a special trip here to try the cornmeal pizza crust, but the guy behind the counter told us there is about 20% white wheat flour in the mix. We were very disappointed, and just want to caution any celiacs that come here looking for 'safe' pizza. Too bad... the pizza looked delicious.
