    virgil's has problems

It's a shame. I had to send my pulled pork sandwich back three times until it was served hot. In addition, air conditioning was freezing. Something has gone wrong.

variable service and food but not bad

I've been here at least 8 times in the last 2 years. The service varies depending on your waiter and like all places in NYC, going at 6PM will get you better service than going to 9pm. The food is variable too and one should get the brisket or pulled pork and not some of the other items on the menu. They used to serve lots of different BBQ sauces at the table but not anymore which is actually quite disappointing. I miss the sweet honey mustard BBQ sauce in particular. It is not unusual to get a plate of food that looks like it has been under a warming plate for a while. The mixed drinks arent bad. All in all, an average place with food that ranges from average to tasty. Its a shame there arent better BBQ places in NYC.

    Good, but not the best

My experience at Virgil's was rather average. I ordered the ribs and the beef brisket, with the greens and french fries as the sides. I have to say that the greens were the star of the meal. The Virgil's signature sauce was also very good. Although the ribs and brisket had a good smoke flavor, both meats were a bit overcooked and sadly under seasoned. The dry rubs need a bit of work. Also, the service was very slow, as I had to flag down different waiters to accommondate me. Although it is hard to find authentic slow-smoked barbeque in New York, the food product and service isn't worth the price.

More than just an old stand by

Yeah, it's a bit touristy but the food is delicious and not that expensive. I go to Virgil's when I'm taking in a show. It's the perfect location and I find myself looking forward to it whenever I go see a show. Fast, friendly service, but make a reservation at those high times.

    In the Mood for Grease

Their burgers are worth writing home about. If you like grease and don't care about binging for a meal, this place will be worth the calories/fat consumption. My co-workers and I always went here. I never ate indoors (deliveries only), so I ca't truly rate the service.

    poor food, poor service..

we found this restaurant off of the main drag while in nyc and figured we would try it with it being a southern restaurant... the bbq tasted like rubber and the tea was as real as nestea... the service was slow and we had to get our own silverware and napkins.... too pricey for mediocre food....nothing southern and good about the place.....

    high marks for this restaurant

no reservations for six, and we were seated in 15 minutes. service was prompt and pleasant. everyone ordered something different, and everyone was very pleased with their meal. the bill was astonishingly low. will definitely return.
