Felt like home!
I'm from Alabama, and this was as close to home as I felt the whole trip. The atmosphere is great. The bbq sauce isn't exactly the best, but everything adds up to a great experience. We had the BBQ Nachos and they could be a meal in itself. The brisket is excellent. Downside is the sweet tea. I know sweet tea and that, sir, is not sweet tea (too much lemon).

No big deal...
After reviewing the reviews on menupages, I decided to make reservations. I was really looking forward to a good BBQ place. This place is just average and may not be worth the experience. Great for kids since its loud and a good hangout for large groups, but don't expect great food. The spare ribs were average...can you believe they don't sell baby back ribs?! I say skip it...

10 Minutes
So, after watching food network and their BBQ specials, we had a craving for some BBQ. We didn't feel like going too far for some, so settled for Virgil's. Got seated promptly and waited around for 10 minutes. When no one came around, we decided to leave. I let one of the workers (someone with a tie) know and the only response I got was an "oh crap" under his breath"

What Happened?
First, I must tell you that this is the first review I have ever written on the web. I was just so shocked, dissapointed and mad. I refused to believe what I read on this site that Virgil's has went down hill. My family came in from out of town and wanted to go here again. They loved it the last few times (2-3 years ago). However, it was absolutely subpar now and this is why: 1. The skin on the wings were fatty and and not crisp. The seasoning was very off and strange. The wings are half the size they used to be. They are no longer crisp and plumb. The bleu cheese dressing on the side did not come with celery or a crumb of actual bleu cheese in the dressing. 2. We waited over 45 minutes for our main course even though it was 3:30. We assumed it would be quicker due to the time of day. 3. The ribs were poor. The outside was burnt and hard. I was unable to chew many parts of the ribs. They were burnt and smoked way to much. They were black and as hard as a rock. 4. Once you broke through the burnt bark, the ribs were fatty and tough. Yes, they were full of Fat and tough as hell to chew. 5. A big bill for unedible ribs. 6. Do to shift chages, we had 3 different servers during our dinner. 7. They didn't have any mustard in the whole restaurant. The server told us that they were waiting for a delivery. You may think that I'm a nut or don't know what I"m talking about; just like I thought of others who wrote negative comments. Please believe me. I am so mad that I wasted my money, had a poor dinner and disappointed my family tonight. Nobody ate more than 1 or 2 ribs. It was not just me, everyone felt this way. Don't be in denial like I was. Read the reviews and look at the trend.

OK
I had been to Virgil’s before with my wife and we now went with my two younger sons and something has definitely changed. The food was good but not outstanding like it used to be and portions were a lot smaller. Last time we were there I couldn’t think of finishing my meal as there was so much food but now there was not enough, the value is gone.

Summer breakfast
Holy cow. You get a ton of great food dirt cheap for breakfast! Not sure if they are just doing this for the summer or if its a permanent fixture. The pancakes with bacon are some of the best I've ever had. They also gave us a bunch of breakfast-style hushpuppies that were killer. The only issue seems to be service. Both times I've gone the wait staff seems to still be asleep!
