Not worth the Time or Cost

Cost was not in line with quality of food. Food was bland but expensive. Reserved a table was seated downstairs .....Tables were to cramped together.

    Not Impressed

We ate at Virgil's a few years ago when we visited NYC last. It left an impression on us so we tried it last night when we were in the area again. This time it did not leave such a great impression. We ordered the hush puppy appetizer for $9.50 and were surprised when the plate arrived with 30ish hushpuppies for the 2 of us. They were not the round puppies we were used to in the south, but instead were like little sausage links. I do wish the server would have warned us at the overload of puppies for the two of us. Our entrees (pulled pork sandwich and meat platter) were ok. I think I was least impressed with the service. Our server did not speak English very well and we ended up with an extra side dish instead of the substitute side we had asked for. She also did not check on us very often for drink refills, etc. In short, I think we will not be putting Virgil's on our list next time we are in town. Too many other good restaurants to try!

    Don't believe the bad reviews

I am having trouble reading the bad reviews for Virgil's. If someone goes to a place that is known for BBQ and orders fried chicken and fish and is disappointed...hello! it is a BBQ place! I have certain dishes that are favorites here. The BBQ chicken is always juicy and flavorful. The ribs are outstanding, fall off the bone. The pulled pork is wonderful. I am not a big brisket fan but my wife likes it so I am happy. Service is typical for Times Square with one very big exception...the bar. If you want to eat quickly and don't mind it, sit at the bar. Since they want to move you along, the service is amazingly fast. The hush puppies and fries with gravy are great appetizers. The beer selection is awesome.

    Form Bad to Worse

This is the single worst BBQ place in NY. The food is just wrong - it is not real BBQ. If you come in late at night everything is gross and dry. Do not order take out/delivery. They will take hours and still get the order wrong and deliver it to the wrong address.

    Bland, Assembly Line

Just came from Virgil's. Had the brisket. Zero flavor. It wasn't tough, but it had no taste. Have had the brisket at Hill Country and it's outstanding. Really delicious. This was a big nothing. The sides were also nothing special. Waitress was lovely, but the food was just not good. Factory atmosphere. The drinks weren't too good either. Everything sub-par. Hadn't been there in a long time and won't be going back. Tourist trap!

    Felt like home!

I'm from Alabama, and this was as close to home as I felt the whole trip. The atmosphere is great. The bbq sauce isn't exactly the best, but everything adds up to a great experience. We had the BBQ Nachos and they could be a meal in itself. The brisket is excellent. Downside is the sweet tea. I know sweet tea and that, sir, is not sweet tea (too much lemon).
