    It more than suffices...

Virgil's has won me over. Although I'm not too thrilled about eating at places that resemble a Saloon, I was quickly impressed with everything about this place. The staff was friendly, and their energy rubbed off on the patrons, because it's rare that I go to places and the entire dining floor looks happy. More importantly, the food was extraordinary. I had my reservations about ordering some of the dishes, in particular the sides, but I didn't regret a single thing that I ordered. Although it was BBQ that we came in search of, the shrimp cocktail was truly immersed with flavor - not your run of the mill variety in any way. I also had the peach/cranberry cobbler for dessert, and for someone without a sweet tooth, this homeboy was licking his bowl. Can't wait to return.

Barbeque? I dont think so. First the barbeque sauce itself is very bitter. The chili had a blended consistency. The cheese fries were really good and the appetizer corn dogs are fun, but that's about it. Not a place I'd return too.

    Fun Experience

For a restaurant located in Midtown, I have to hand it to Virgil's for giving real value for the dollar. Where else in Manhattan can you get an entree for $20 with such generous portions? The chicken wings are superb; they literally give you the entire wing, not just the joint, and the deep, smoky flavor is a welcome change from the usual hot sauce-saturated wing flavor that is so commonplace elsewhere. On my second trip back, I ordered the two-meat combo, which comes with a biscuit, and choice of two sides. The barbecued brisket is great; soft meat that literally falls apart when you pull it with your fork. The ribs are good, although I personally would prefer a sweeter flavor in the dry rub. I never have had room for dessert here, although I would like to try to make it one day. The service is professional, especially considering how crowded the place is. All in all, Virgil's is a treat for gourmands who appreciate barbecued food.

Better than Texas, in my opinion!

I have become addicted to Virgil's over the years. The two-meat platter (brisket and pulled pork!) and the ribs are out of this world. The sides, especially the potatoes, either mashed or scalloped, are to die for. Try the biscuits with maple honey butter. We've never made it to dessert yet! Last summer I went to a famous bbq place in Texas, well, to me, New York blew that out of the water. The prices are not exactly cheap, but it's not crazy, and the food and portions are worth it. Enjoy!

    Melts in Your Mouth

If you're missing Carolina style pulled pork with that vinegry tang , this is the place. Generous meat portions and homemade salads too! Friendly wait staff. Draft beer was a little pricey at $6 a glass
