    Very dry bbq. Cold reception.

Cold hostess didn't care but nice waitress. Took the pig out plate , big deception. Dry ribs very dry. Can't taste the rub over smoked a little. Same thing for the pulled pork and the brisket. Anywhere but there.

    Still Love This Place

I went back to Virgil's last night for the first time in over ten years. It used to be my favorite hang in the 90s. I didn't notice much difference in the decor, and my two favorite dishes are still on the menu. I tried my husband's chicken wings, and it's true - they are spectacular. I've never had wings like these. They are the WHOLE wing, not the drumsticky thing and its other half. They taste like they've just come off the grill and not out of a fryer. Virgil's has a variety of seasonal beers on tap, which was very nice. Our portions, both appetizers & entrees, were sizeable - no one at our table finished either. We took home massive doggie bags. The sides are tiny ramekins, about a 1/4 cup serving, maybe four bites. I really can't call that stingy when I can't even finish my meal. I get not wanting to pay a lot for BBQ, but Virgil's is a very nice dining experience with lots of features you won't find in "authentic" barbecue joints.

Life ain't nothing but a chicken wing

The chicken wings are so fabulous ! On the appetizer listing, I usually get two orders as my meal with the buttermilk biscuit, honey butter, such a gorgeous flavor, it's like some authentic ribs I use to get in St Martin rib shack at dawn beach before the big guys bought the owner out to build condos. If you love a great chicken wing, go!

    Disappointing

Over priced for mediocre food. Ribs and pulled pork were dry.

    I walked out.

This place is such a ripoff, I simply looked at the menu and walked out. We have similar food in my Manhattan neighborhood at half the price. $3.50 coke at this joint? Forget it. I'm no sucker.

Tourist trap that use to be a great BBQ place.

What happened? Who bought this place? Cafeteria food supplier? Half of the stuff that use to be on the menu is gone and what's left is not that great, nowhere near to what it was back in the day. This place had fantastic hot dogs with chilly and a great appetizer sampler platter, all gone now. The food is bland and the meat itself is of poor quality. On my most recent visit and most likely last I saw a guy eating ribs with a knife and a fork. Sad, sad ... very sad.

Not What It Used To Be

Look, this is the theater district, where more tourists come to be fed and entertained than anywhere on earth. With the sky high rents and huge amount of people to be fed fast, don't expect great unless you're ready to pay large. Virgils, at say $40-50 for a meal is not high for NYC, but neither is the food better than trough food Service is fair at best as the place is jammed packed most of the time.Don't expect much attention and allow yourself an hour more than you planned to be seated and fed. Over the years the food quality was better than average for the district, but sadly, Virgil's best days are behind it.
