A Great Find
Being a South African, it was my first visit to Manhattan and I only had a day to myself. Having walked Mid City flat, by noon I was dying for a beer and a good plate of food (this following a terrible meal at a restarurant in Little Italy - a real tourist trap). I had a fabulous meal, the calamari was fantastic and the meat loaf (my first) was great. The food, hospitality & service was first class. Thanks Peter, if I wasn't 17 hours away, I would be back.

Do one thing, do it well
I have previously made the mistake of trying other items on V&E's menu, they are pretty lousy. However, they offer in my opinion one of the top5 cheeseburgers in NY. Hell, even their fries aren't good, but the burger, the cheese, the bread, it's a thing of beauty. Do yourself a favor and don't bother getting fancy, the rest of the menu disappoints.

Unfairly maligned
I went last pm (fri) with wife for dinner prior to Met opera. Local bar crowd in front was a bit foul-mouthed but once you get past this rabble, the ambience and food in the back dining area is very solid. reserved on open table at noon and got a 6:30 pm slot (the last one). requested a table near the fireplace and got it (though the courtyard area looked like a nice place to dine too). waiter was friendly and reasonable prompt in service. i ordered the endive and roquefort salad with apples. it was small but very delicious (you really shouldn't overfill on salad before main course anyway). my wife got the seared tuna which was very good but strong in pepper taste ala emeril. i got the roasted chicken which was really tasty and moist. we ordered a side of the garlic infused whipped potatos which were wonderful. for dessert we got the berry cobbler a la mode which was the best we have ever tasted bar none. we also ordered two diet cokes and a coffee. total check was about $96 not including tax/tip. price seemed fair compared to comprable lincoln center establishments we have been to and we would go back.

great place for brunch
Took the three teen-aged grandchildren there for brunch before the opera a month of two ago, and we all had a wonderful time. Service was excellent! When asked where they wanted to go this last time, they all asked to come here again, and again, we had a great time. The atrium is a particularly good space.

Nice ambience but ...but....but
Mediocre food, aloof service and high prices undermine what could be a great local haunt. Maybe Saturday night is not the night to come. Perhaps my friends were foolish to order what resulted in over cooked, over priced and bland tasting pasta at a neighborhood restaurant.. The chicken was a hit . The wine was reasonably priced But indifferent service goes a long way to making one feel more like a wedding crasher than a guest. Nice ambience though.

Wonderful neighborhood restaurant!
I was just looking for a link to send a friend to whom I am heartily recommending Vince and Eddie’s for a pre-concert dinner, I was so surprised to see the negative comments that I felt compelled to write my own. I lived on the upper Westside for years and enjoyed the understate charm of this restaurant many times. My (then girlfriend) and I liked it so much that while we had the means to hold our wedding’s rehearsal at a far more pretentious establishment, we decided to have it at Vince & Eddie’s. Many of our guests told us how much they enjoyed the delicious meal, polite service and friendly authentic neighborhood feel of the restaurant.
