going down
As a Village Den regular i am sad to say that everything is getting poorer in quality and quantity and higher in price. The Greek Salad is wilty with barely a toss of feta, tasteless olives and zero grape leaves. Even the aesthetics of how the food is served is getting sloppy. Where is management?

where'd you go?
this used to be totally reliable for good solid diner food every time - but the past couple of visits left me very underwhelmed. the quality of the food is off, as is the quantity. i will try again....one more time, in hopes of the return of the real village den.

not what it use to be
sorry to say this place has been going downhill for the last couple of years .they had the best lamb shanks in town .last 2 times i had them ,they were flavorless.i ordered them again tonight .still flavorless and also lukewarm.the staff doesn't have much of a personality they all seem to be bored.price is way out of line for what you get.don't see myself going back again.

No better diner in Manhattan
Still the best soups in New York. My favorites in the lunches are the beef Stroganoff, beef paprikasch, bagel "all the way" and tuna salad triple decker sandwich. But the duo of crisp, chunky crab cakes in creamy macaroni and cheese go to the head of the list.

What Has Happened Here?
This once reliable place has gone downhill....hot food is served at room temperatue and the the quality has gone downhill. The once incredible Honey Fried Chicken Platter is so poor that they should be embarrased to serve it. There is no meat, all fat, breading and bones. Upon sending it back, they even argued with me saying its always how they serve it. So sad to see this place go so far downhill so fast. What they put on a plate is shameful!

Come Back Village Den...Where Are You?
The Village Den has become a different place and is now unreliable: 1. They consistently deliver partial orders. Even if you repeat your order twice, and they repeat it back to you, they don't seem to understand English suddenly, whereas for years they did. 2. The food arrives cold and haphazardly in its container. 3. The coffee, oh so important, tastes weak. 4. They never send menus, even when you ask. 5. The quality of the food has been lowered:Bacon is now fatty. Potatoes arrive dry and seem old. The greens garnish is wilted. Cole Slaw is slopped in a cup. The salads have less on them protein wise. It feel like the old owners have moved on and who ever is in charge now doesn't know how to cook and is indifferent to maintaing the standard set before him, or about retaining customers.

More than satisfied
We stopped in the Village Den for a late lunch on November 6th while in the Village doing a bit of shopping during our trip to NYC from Michigan. There were 4 of us and we all thought it was one of the best lunches we had on our trip. The lunch special was a great value and the food was very good. Loved the pickles, wish we had them here. My daughter wants to stay near the Village on our next trip so she can eat every meal there.
