Easily the best Italian restaurant in NYC

I've been going to this restaurant for 30 years, but hadn't been there in about two years. I went again tonight. Once again, everything was perfect. The food, the wait staff (totally old world service), the atmosphere, you name it. Doesn't get better than this folks. Try the specials, try the standards. You won't be disappointed!

    Excellent

I found this restaurant on a search engine and called their number to make a reservation. Immediately I felt the connection as the hostess sounded so happy to hear that I called. I have worked in the restaurant business for 4 years and I have to say that I have never encountered such friendly wait staff before or since this restaurant. I disagree with the review about the mussels, I thought they were delicious. Even the coffee was good! And the tiramisu I shared with my girlfriend was handmade from scratch and tasted like heaven.

    Snall wedding luncheon

After a wedding ceremony at City Hall our family gathered in the lovely sunroom in the rear for a delicious luncheon for 25 people. The food was terrific, the service excellent. My daughter-in-law was allowed to bring many decorations for days before the luncheon, even wedding-type desserts. The people were extremely helpful in the planning and unpretentious, never trying to talk us into anything. We picked out main courses, appetizers, sides from experienced restauranteurs. It was a lovely luncheon definitely made better by this Villa Mosconi.

    Everything you could ask for

I don't live in the neighborhood, but I eat here whenever I'm downtown and I always take out-of-towners here. The reasons? There are many, starting with the warm atmosphere, which really makes you feel like famiglia. Ask any waiter for something and you'll get it. Somebody in your party have a food allergy? They'll take care of it. You have plenty of space--not like the places that cram tables together. But best of all is the wonderful food. Everything is good, but my favorite appetizer is the portobello mushrooms with balsamic vinegar. Visitors want to know if it's OK to sop up the gravy with bread. It is! My wife never looks at the menu any more because she always orders the veal cutlet with prosciutto and cheese. Generous portions, and she sometimes saves some to take home. Make room for the desserts, in particular the zabaglione with fresh strawberries (or raspberries) surrounding the most delicious cream you've ever had. I've been to all the snotty, overpriced places and none of them have food, service, and atmosphere comparable to this place. You won't be sorry.

    not good

The last review for this restaurant was 2 years ago, so maybe something has changed because all four of us thought the food was pretty mediocre or worse. We had stopped 2 parties going into the restaurant to ask if they had been there before and they both were positive. There is a very nice outdoor space where we were seated and were served good bread so we were hopeful. The mussel appetizer was not bad but the mussels were not sweetest. None of us liked our main dishes. I had the osso buco special and it had almost no taste. The veal rollatini was also not good, very heavy. we shared rum cake for dessert which was also heavy without much taste. The waiter was friendly but not always accommodating. Maybe we missed something but we certainly won't be back.

    Excellent food and service!

Nice cozy atmosphere. Greeted with a smile and made us feel very welcome. We had like 3 or 4 servers through the night making the service excellent. The food was really really good and well worth the price. The staff made the night that much more enjoyable. Great great people and very friendly. Made you feel right at home. I'd definetly go back!

This place was great...everyone was eating off of each other's place, each entree was simply delicious. I would definitely go there again...awesome Italian!
