I can't find a bad word to say about this place. The service is prompt and friendly - and at no point have we felt rushed to eat up and get out-, the food is lovely, I consider the portion sizes to be generous: I have never been able to finish a meal in there but maybe it's because I'm English and used to smaller portions. The mozzerella sticks are some of the best I've ever tasted and the orange soda is addictively tasty. The only flaw I found was the night they ran out of orange soda! And all of it excellent value for money. A brilliant place to eat in the UWS.

I think we were waiting for a table when the below poster was being rushed... New Year's Day on the UWS is not a day you get to linger at your table! We love Viand Cafe, the food is great, service is even better. Our 3 year old loves to come here for breakfast every weekend the neighborhood wouldn't be the same without it!

selection was great, food was tasty (omelettes and pancakes) and plentiful, waitress was great, atmosphere was great, BUT, they served us quickly and then hinted we should leave after30 minutes. At 35 minutes, the owner stopped by to hint further. At 40 minutes, the busboy refused to bring more coffee and said we had to leave. While we understand the need to rotate tables while it's busy, if we can't even sit to enjoy a conversation for an hour, we might as well go to mcdonalds. Wouldn't go back for that reason alone.

This cafe, in the Beacon Hotel, is one of the nicer diners in the city. Food is very fresh, well prepared and service is very fast. The layout is a little odd, and some of the tables are in noisy areas near the kitchen and prep areas. But if you ask, they will move you to another table if one is available. Portions range from big to huge. Omelettes are great. The clientele is primarily local residents, lots of families and only a few tourists. Many are regulars. Nice place for a meal any time, day or night.

Normally, I order from Viand and receive great food at a fairly quick speed. My go-to meal is the gardenburger with either steamed broccoli or sweet potato fries and I love it. It hits the spot every time. I've eaten at the restaurant a handful of times and the service is pretty good. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was sophisticated and clean. Although I have not eaten at many diners since I'm new to the UWS, I highly recommend Viand Cafe. Three thumbs up.

I ordered the Mediterrean burger with feta cheese, roasted bell peppers, muselin salad and sweet potato fries. I asked for the burger to be well done and it was. They could have eased up on the feta cheese slice (it was huge). The few fries I did have were tasty, but it filled me up quickly. Don't order the fries unless you have more than one person with you. The service was satisfactory, not great. The restaurant could stand a good once over with a mop and broom.

I live downtown so the Viand is a bit out of the way for me. Having said that, I've been here more than twenty times over the past couple of years and can honestly say that I've never ordered anything that was sub-par. I try to mix it up when I come up there so I've tried the steak, the club sandwiches, the fish, et al. The NY strip steak is the best I've ever had from a diner in the city. To boot, the place is extremely clean (something I'm always conscious about wherever I eat) and the staff is excellent. Friendly, warm service makes me feel right at home. I realize this may sound cheesy, but it is true. The only downside I can think of are the prices. All in all, though, you definitely do get what you pay for, and in my humble opinion the West Side Viand is the best casual dining experience I've had in this city.
