go for the food and no other reason

Very good food. Among the best diner food I've ever had and I grew up in Jersey. It's not priced like a diner, and the service is downright bad. I live close by, but only go when The Stage is closed and Veselka's is empty. Either they're doing something very right or people are just desperate for quality Polish food that they are okay with waiters who act like they deserve a living.

    Great Ukrainian dessert

We were looking for a dessert place in 2nd ave. And when we stumbled upon this cafe. Little did we know that we were in for a treat. The homemade dessert was memorable at it first bite, while the service was an extra bonus in this delightful experience.

    Just for the traditional

We made a mistake of ordering the average american fare....but it was below average. Don't get me wrong, Veselka is great! We love it, but not for their non-eastern european fare. Go for the pierogis and bigos etc. but stay clear of the burgers and sandwiches.

    Delicious food, crowded circumstances

Very delicious food! I tried the beef stroganoff (which was the best stroganoff I've ever had), and the meat stuffed cabbage (which was a bit more like meat with a little hat of cabbage) . The seating was a little cramped, but the server was attentive and dinner overall was excellent.

    My Favorite Late-Night Spot

I always pop into Veselka when I've been out drinking really late, so as a result I've developed this Pavlovian drunken craving for their food. It's like comfort food for Eastern Europeans (and everyone else too, but especially if you happen to be Eastern European). My absolute favorite thing they make are the arugula and goat cheese pierogies- oh my God. My mouth waters at the thought. They also do a very good beef stroganoff and a good lamb burger with feta. I'm not crazy about their stuffed cabbage, though (but that could only be because it's not my mom's). I love the 24-hour aspect of it, and how it's always packed, but even so, they let you hang out for as long as you want or need to. It's a very homey little spot.

    best diner in the city

i love veselka. when it was first recommended to me, i had no idea how quickly it would become one of my favorite spots in the city. i eat here or get delivery at least once a week. the service is very efficient, and everything is always fresh, homemade-tasting, and delicious! amazing coffee, blintzes, fresh juices, and pierogies (the arugula and goat cheese pierogies are out of this world). they even deliver drinks (little poland doesn't)! all of the soups taste so fresh, and the chicken noodle rivals my mother's. they offer a selection of imported beers- another feature which makes veselka unique in it's category. it's also open 24/7, which makes for great late night treats :)

Mmm pierogies and pancakes oh my!

This place is one of my favorites -- get the pierogies, and if you're there after a night of drinking at 5am, get some of the world's fluffiest pancakes.
