I simply have a hard time accepting how hard this place fell off. What used to be fantastic eats now only brings tears to my eyes, poor food, rude service do yourself a favor and go elsewhere unless you enjoy looking like a hipster who overpays for poor food and poor service.

Only eat at Veselka's late at night when other places are closed, good service, but everything feels commercial. Whenever anyone mentions East Village, Veselkas is usually incorporated into the conversation, but i highly recommend to those people to try some of the smaller, older looking places on first and second avenue, that don't have as fancy of an atmosphere, but have the real Polish-Ukrainian home cooking.

Ordered red borstch last night - the best I have ever had in NY, tasted really home made Polish red borstch. Also had meat pierogi which I never order because I'm not a big fun of meat pierogi, but these were very very delicious! Also picked a few of the small paczki (donuts), tasted home made as well.

I ate at Veselka the very first time late one night, I was too late to grab a meal at the Stage, so I decided to try the place. The service was promising, although the waitress did not speak Polish or Ukrainian, to my disbelief. Second, the entrees' were over priced, especially for the size of the portions. I decided to go with fried potato and cheese pierogi, and was surprised to see that they were deep fried, instead of pan fried, which takes longer, but gives the pierogi a less oily taste. The cheese pierogi were tasty, but the potato pierogi filling was surprisingly clumpy. To be honest, I expected more out of such a well known restaurant as Veselka, so I'll be walking down the block instead to get some authentic Ukrainian food

Great Ukrainian food at this East Village staple. Most recently went for brunch. We had a HUGE wait for a table of 5, but the blueberry pancakes were the best I've ever had (pure maple syrup too). The potato pancakes, blintz, borscht, stuffed cabbage were all great. Even though it was busy, we never felt rushed. Check it out.

Over the last three weeks I have driven Miss Ally to her SAT class in Soho. While waiting to pick her up have gone to Veselka. Hadn't been there in a very long time. No problem - no changes! The blintzes are very good, the perogies ok, borscht three stars. Service is friendly and breakfest/brunch stuff is very good. Love the LES atmosphere and crowd. A pleasure not to spend $100 for a Sunday brunch for 2. Enjoy. Amities Gourmandes, ally's dad

I live next door to Veselka and end up ordering delivery because it's convenient. But the food is always disappointing. It's overpriced for diner-ish food.
