I remember Veselka when I was a kid and it was a small coffee shop maybe one quarter of its current size today and that was about 30 years ago...Food was great then and still terrific even now. I no longer live in the city, but whenever we come down from NH, my husband & I make sure to get our perogie and stuffed cabbage fix at Veselka. The service needs some work but the food & atmosphere and people watching make it worth the trip. The chicken noodle soup is the best I've ever had and the cheese pyrohy (perogie in Ukrainian) rock!

Great food_ the borscht was great as were the meatballs, keilbasa and the pierogi. A must is the rasberry blintz. The service however can use some work. The staff seems distracted and slow.

Summer or winter, their borscht can't be beat! That said, Veselka is what it is: a great place for cheap, stick-to-your-ribs food. The fact that some of it is Ukrainian is just an added bonus.
