My husband and I have gone to Veracruz several times over the past 12 years. However, it has been awhile since we last went. We went last night, and was immediately told that that there was no alcohol. I was disappointed, having looking forward to a few margaritas. That wasnt the worst of it. The place was unheated and they had the door open until I told them to please close it. It wasnt 60 degrees outside..who keeps a door open in an unheated restaurant, especially when you see one of the two patrons in the whole place put on her coat to stay warm. The food? Not horrible, but I have had better there in the past. The wait staff was somewhat pleasant, but not overly warm and fuzzy, nor attentive. I would be remiss if I didnt share my experience. In this economy, even if you have to scale back on a luxury such as alcohol, it would be nice to replace it with a pleasant ambiance and excellenct customer service. Suffice to say, I dont think i will be returning :(

Absolutely poor service and bland food. I ordered the Enchiladas De Carne for take out, when I got home I saw a received a chicken dish, completely different from what i ordered. I called back and spoke with someone who said they would take care of it next time I came in. Called back a few days later, the manager told me it wasn't her problem because, in her words, it was my job to check the dish before i left(who does that when they order pick up?), then told me she couldn't talk because she was at work and hung up. What manager talks to paying customers that way? Subpar mexican food and poor service. Will definitely never order from this restaurant again.

Had dinner in the garden earlier this week after several years of not eating here. We arrived before 7 so were able to order a special for $8.50 which was a great value. Unfortuately, the food was below average. It was bland & lacked any type of fresh flavor. The rice was dry and flavorless and the beans, tasteless mush. Authentic Mexican has flavor - not overly spicy but some complexity from the chiles, moles, cilantro etc. This was completely flat. The frozen Margarita was good but had no alcohol. I'm a lighweight with alcohol and two didn't even give me a hint of a buzz. The garden was pleasant enough but they need to do something about the bird poop everywhere. We had to search for two chairs that weren't covered and ask the table be wiped down. Yuck! The large rat trap behind my chair didn't do much for the ambience either. I know it's Brooklyn but at least try to hide it with some flowers... On the upside, our waitress was sweet and the service, very attentive. Do yourself a favor- log on to foodnetwork.com, download Tyler Florence's "Ultimate Chicken Burrito" recipe and make your own. 100x better!

This place serves standard Mexican fare that's about as average as Mexican gets. It's not bad. It's not great. But it is fairly expensive for Mexican food. With all the authentic hole-in-the-wall Mexican joints in the area, I see no reason to go back here.
