    Wow

I have been coming to this place since I was a young girl, I am 51 now and don't live in NY any more. I am so excited that I am able to order on line and get this wonderful food shipped to my home. I only wish you would offer more on the website.

    Family tradition

Have gotten holiday and birthday cakes here ever since I can remember, from my 1st cake to my 21st cake. My cousin and I both like the chocolate cake with whipped cream, bananas, and strawberries inside. My mom n dad prefer the vanilla sponge with either chocolate cream or vanilla custard and whipped cream frosting. Tiramisu and Cannoli are good too. No matter what you order though, call in for pickup; long lines are standard as you have to grab a number to be seen.

    Fabulous Quaresimale

Sampled a bunch of stuff. The plain quaresimale (what some of us call biscotti)was the best I ever had. The regular cannoli had a slightly stale casing but the filling was really delish, The Anise toast was huge and tasty, but the most perfect was the pignoli cookie, OMG, a mound of delight. The regina cookies (sesame enrobed) were crunchy and flavorful and I am sure I detected a drop of anise in them as well. the ricotta cheesecake is...wonderful, not supersweet but just right, rich, perfectly tanned on the outside, and it doesn't have that annoying eggy taste. The sfogliatelle were crunchy, yummy, hints of orange/lemon but not any different than any other good Italian pastry shop. Did not enjoy the "butter" cookies at all, the ones that looked like swiss fudge by Stella D'oro were disappointing, stick with Stella D'oro, or go to a French patisserie instead. Go and enjoy anyway.

    Just Above Average

We've been here several times and find that it can be deafeningly noisy when it gets crowded. The offerings are above average and nothing really stands out. We don't see all that fuss about their cheesecakes though. Having said that, it's really a cute place to hang out and people watch (if you don't have sensitive ears).

Why does this place still have 4.5 Stars?

I grew up in the East Village and my father used to take me to this place when I was a kid. Ya in the 90's it was great, but it has gone extremely down hill over the past 10 years. Somebody I know brought over some pastries from there a few months ago and they weren't good. This place is 2.5 Stars max. I think it only stays open due to all the tourists and new comers to the neighborhood that never had Italian pastry in their life.
