Mock chicken fajita heaven
I'm a vegetarian with a weakness for VP2's [mock] chicken fajitas. Everything I've tried on this creative menu is tasty to downright delicious. The service is extremely friendly (especially once the servers get to know you) and the management will bend over backwards to make sure you're happy. Oh, and the price is right. I read some of the negative reviews and feel as if I must be on a different planet from those customers. There's no pleasing everyone! I'm a regular and couldn't be happier here.

Used to be the best, now like all the rest...
The quality of VP's food and the portion size vs. price has quickly gone downhill since the restaurant was sold to new owners. Yeah, it's the same name and mostly has the same menu items, but their food has lost that awesome flavor that made it one of my fave restaurants in NYC. Everything's just a little...off. Perhaps the new owners didn't think it was necessary to also buy the recipes or keep the same chef. It's a shame. This place has been here for, like, 25 years...and I fear it will be going out of business soon if they don't scramble and beg the former owners for those yummy recipes. HEY, NEW OWNERS: Get the quality and taste of your food back up to where it was before you bought the place, or you're going to be in serious trouble.

Yuck
I'm not sure what possessed me to order the faux turkey dinner entree, but it was a mistake. As a long time vegetarian, I've eaten there before and it seemed edible. But this time, the poor quality of the each ingredient made me feel so unhealthy. I wish I could un-eat the parts I had. The peas and carrots seemed like they were from a freezer bag. The "stuffing" seemed off, bordering on rancid. The mashed potatoes and tofurkey did not seem fresh. Just thinking about all this is making me feel sick... And the other entrees we got were just as gross. So, come here for the plethora of fake meats, but not for fresh, healthy, or tasty food.

if you're a vegetarian and miss meat - this is indeed paradise

Great experience, definitely worth another visit!
This place was suggested to me by a friend at work who knew I was a vegetarian from California. I looked up the reviews here and decided to "risk" the ire of the reportedly short-tempered staff. I'm glad to say that my experience was very positive. I did remember to close the door behind me as I entered since it was cold outside and other folk were waiting by the door to be seated before me. I entered at 8:10pm, was seated at 8:20. Everyone was very courteous. Even the waiters and waitresses who didn't attend to me smiled at me frequently and checked up to see if everything was to my liking. The place was crowded and there was a line of people at the door waiting to be seated, but I was not rushed. I decided to order the carrot-ginger juice (fantastic, if you like ginger, like me), Camarones Y Coco (not very remarkable - had to season it with salt), and the vegetarian salmon steak (ok, but really tasted like crumbed eggplant fritters. The nice couple next to me ordered a carrot beetroot juice saying they were inspired by my orange drink. They ordered an off-menu item (roti shanay, apparently a malaysian dish). I wanted to try it, but it was too late, my tummy was full. Promised myself that I'd order it next time. Overall, the food was not exceptional, though it was arranged very nicely. The atmosphere was fantastic. The staff were very courteous and cheerful and the items I didn't order seemed to have enough promise to make me want to come back and try 'em. One recommendation to the staff - The music was too loud - perhaps reduce it some? My phone went off 3 times and I missed all calls, even though it was in my shirt pocket precisely to prevent that from happening. &

People like Eric who don't understand customer service should get out of NYC
Restaurants are a service business and it is necessary to serve your customer well. Given that Asian cultures are known for their hospitality (case in point - Singapore airlines and Cathay Pacific airlines are the ones which get the best service awards each year), this restaurant better get a new hostess. Folks like Eric, who think treating people like shit is keeping it real are responsible for getting the stereotype of rudeness for New Yorkers.
