Cute setting and a good intro to indian
The setting is really cute - very epcot indian. But the food is good and authentic and spicy to boot. There is no menu - they just start serving you up veggies hot and fast and you can get seconds on anything you want - although if you can eat seconds you are a champ. It's more food than it looks like. The cauliflower was my favorite actually. You can specify hot medium or mild. Definitely go mild if you are not sure of your spice tolerance. Overall very good but as I know what dishes are my faves I would probably never return just because you have no control over the choices. Still recommend though.

Great food, poor service
I've been to Vatan on two occasions. The food is good and the ambience is excellent. The tables are spaced apart which gives a certain amount of privacy. Problem: the staff needs to improve their customer service.

Hmmm wat can i say?
Been to Vatan like about five times...and lets say some days were good but some weren't. It's true they tell you that the reservations are full but when you walk in they aren't! Some the waiters are not-so-friendly. But the price is good cause you can always ask for more! The food is great but sometimes the restaurant can be moody...hehe...

Plenty of good food with great service
Had Dinner with 7 others here. Where else can you get a sampling of appetizers and entrees for such a low price? They made the spice-level to each individual's preference and the waitress was very nice and explained each of the small dishes to us. Would recommend to anyone who is interested in a more homestyle vegetarian north indian meal.

Suberb Authentic Cuisine
Vatan is by far the best Indian (Gujarati) food outside of my mother's kitchen. The menu consists of many dishes that are not found at most restaurants on this side of the ocean- eating at Vatan is consistently a treat. After more than 20 years of eating Indian food in New York restaurants, I can confidently say that if you don't like the food at Vatan, you don't actually like authentic Indian food. I have always found the service to be considerate, where else can you get unlimited freshly made rotis, subzi's and the rest? My absolute favorite Indian fare outside of India!

Not worth it
Very disappointing. We were treated poorly- the food was subpar and no substitutions were permitted. Don't waste your money and time.

Don't make a reservation
Overall, it is decent vegetrian food in a better atmosphere. If you call to make a reservation they will tell you that it is sold out but if you walk in, the whole restuarant is empty. Table service is good but lady on the phone is not.
