Delicious vegetarian Indian with amazing service!

Delicious, plentiful, pricey!
Admittedly, I was not very hungry when I went here for an early dinner. This was probably a mistake. I was barely able to taste all of the wonderful appetizers and entrees they served, let alone finish them. Despite what anyone else has said here, the food is very high quality Indian vegetarian cuisine and a great place to go if you are new to Indian food. You get to have as much as you want of anything that you like. The service was very helpful and attentive and the food was served quite quickly. Everything was delicious. The price was a bit steep though, but if price is no object for you, then certainly the food is worth it.

So Thirsty...
Great "theme park" looking interior and really friendly service. Food was rather indistinct from other Indian places. However, there must be something in it, because I was thirsty for hours after. Not going back.

Best ambience Poor Service
I recently went to Vatan. I can this same quality food on 38th street and sixth avenue at $8.00. It is just hyped. Service is not good at all. The servers asked to pass on plates and food even though they were able to easily reach us from all angles. The worst server handed me boiling hot bowl without caution. Dont go unless you want to be disappointed and fight for service.

A lousy and humiliating experience!
Vatan used to be a favorite for a romantic, if pricy, dinner. I thought it would be a great choice for my boyfriend's birthday, with his whole family. What an embarassing mistake! They put us downstairs in an ugly florescent lit cave, which was at least well cooled. As the room filled up, the bad acoustics made conversation almost impossible. This added to the agony of a very long night -- long because the service was basically MIA. It took 45 minutes from sitting down just to receive our drinks. The food was never the best Indian in town (one went for the ambience, service, and fun, menuless experience), and I think it has gone downhill. One or two things were tasty, but it was mainly tepid, gluey, and flavorless. The portions are tiny. Sure, you can still ask for more of anything you want, but just try to find a waitress. Finally the bill -- $60/person (with drinks -- not too many drinks). Service is already included of course, just to add insult to injury. I complained about how awfully things had gone, and they apologized that it was very busy (on Saturday night? What a surprise! Who could have prepared for that?). This review is my sincere attempt to help them with their tragic problem of having too many customers.
