This restaurant used to be the Academy hardware store, which had been there for decades. It is on 2 levels. There is a very steep staircase leading to the second floor. I ate there the week it opened and had something called "homemade sausage". Twelve hours later my mouth still did not feel right. I will be back and try something else. There are some awfully nice people working there and I like the way it looks. Just keep away from the homemade sausage.

When you walk in, you feel like you are IN a wine barrel! The burgers were good, the fries were tasty, the beer was fresh. This will become a new Columbia favorite!

Not a good time. Food wasn't impressive -- my salmon was nothing special and was pricey and the salad was sub-par (though I enjoyed the pine nuts--a good touch), though the fries that came with my friend's meal were good. But the service, oy. There was a problem with my friend's order (something hadn't been included) that would have been easy to fix politely and very quickly. It took 15 minutes, and even then it was handled as ungracefully as I've ever seen a restaurant deal with anything. There was a feeble attempt at the end of the evening to apologize, but by that time, the insulting approach by the manager had lost us. Won't be going back.

The decor is very nice, quite mediterranean. The food was quite reasonable, had the burger($9) and it was delicious.the service was very friendly also. Would definitely go back!!

The service was friendly and the atmosphere was cool. We were pleasantly surprised by the menu items we chose -- the flavors were subtle and delicious. The texture of the grilled octopus was almost like a grilled tuna - not at all chewy as most octopus dishes can be. We also had leek salad which was exquisite.

Food was great! I had the salmon and my husband had the beef tagine, both were very flavorful and reasonable portions. The waiter was fine, but it took almost an hour to get a salad (the waiter blamed it on a computer issue). They knocked off 20% for our troubles, which was very nice. I chalk it up to new restaurant kinks. Decor is rustic and cozy, nice candlelight - a great addition to the neighborhood, which was in desperate need of a new restaurant.

The food here was universally subpar, I guess if you get wasted enough anything tastes good really but if you're not drinking pass on Vareli. Very pretentious and uncool.
