They serve the meals cafeteria style. Problem is, the pasta chefs do one at a time! The line, 4 people deep, took 20 minutes to get pasta! Standing on my feet for 20 min - then another 5 for a drink - is not my idea of a pleasant dining experience. The place is beautiful. But management should pay attention to customer fatigue and reallocate some resources when there's a long line, OR do a beeper service like the pizza long. Very unpleasant. Would not come back.

Delicious pasta, very flavorful and fresh....made right in front of you. The pizza was absolutely sinful...think crust , saucy and very rustic.

The food and drinks are delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends. The atmosphere is cozy.

So good! The best value you can find, and it's "real deal" Italian. Everything's good here.

I came to this place on a whim with my sister. We loved the food. The pasta is to die for. Definitely coming back

The Union Square area was seriously lacking a reasonable pedestrian Italian/Pizza establishment (not counting Patsy's). Most, along with some decent delis, were forced out in the last few years by rising rents. Though a really good pizza parlor has moved in just a block away, Vapoiano's arrival is a nice change to the banks that have been sprouting up in every available storefront. I've been there twice, once ordering the fettuccine alfredo with chicken, and the second ordering the pizza. Prepared fresh infront of you is a great idea but the pasta was not stirred enough and all the ends formed a mass lump of dough that was inedible. Sauce and chicken were great.I like the idea of the edible garnish, basil plants, growing in little pots on the tables. No bread and olive oil was available to eat with the meal, very surprising. The pizza, individual pies, was great. Though it took a little while to make the wait was worth it. Beverages are expensive, double the price from a local deli and triple grocery store prices. Except for the cooks behind the counter it's all self service which is why I gave a zero for service.
