No bad for quick and cheap.

I ordered delivery and the guy was super friendly and helpful so I really wanted to like this place... The veggie dumplings were alright, shrimp boiled dumplings were very watery on the inside, and the spicy tuna roll seemed like it was picked up at one of those deli's that starts selling sushi for half-off after 5. I won't be ordering again.

    Honest review

The fried dumplings are just okay. They have a super thick and chewy skin. Although crispy and charming in their own way they are nothing special. The first time I went the fried dumplings they gave me were cold and hard. It took an act of desperation to go back. I've been back several times. But, it's nothing special. The fillings feel like they are made from the cheapest meat possible. I have found little bone pieces in the pork dumplings every time I have eaten here. The veggie dumplings are awful. Just awful. I swear they fill the veggie dumplings with twigs and stalks. The steamed buns are filled with the same fillings. So, enough said about that. Service is alright, I guess. It's fast but sometimes crowded and they don't really care about giving you a good experience. The scallion pancake sandwich (shredded pork) is very good. I've also heard good things about the teriyaki platters. The only complaint about the teriyaki was that the chicken was a lot of gristle and crummy peices of meat. If the quality of ingredients were better this place would be top notch. As it stands, they still have the best deal on dumplings in the neighborhood. Plump Dumpling is just way to dirty, and Dumpling Man is way to expensive and not worth what you pay for. So, try Vanessa's next time you have a craving. ...Just, don't say I didn't warn ya.

    What's all the hype about?

The vegetable dumplings were only okay. Here's the deal about the almond milk bubble tea: It took me a long time to drink, because the "bubbles" kept getting stuck in the straw.

    Try Chinatown!

Do not confuse this location with the one in Chinatown! This one is barely decent - the other one absolutely rocks, but be prepare to fight your way trough hipsters.

    Not recommended

Looks like I might be in the minority here bit I found my recent order of boiled shrimp dumplings barely edible. Its very convenient to work but when i ordered with other co-workers they forgot my order, there were only 3 other orders. The dumplings finally arrived and it was just a tasteless mess.

    Hard to Believe How Great

We have sampled the delicacies of Robuchon and Gagnaire. We have left $$$$ with Tom Keller. Through the years Soltner, Rachou, Vongerichten and others have taken our gelt and given us gastronomic pleasure. But now, Obama and Patterson are raising our taxes and covering the warranties of GM. What are we to do - Go to Vanessa's Dumplings! I got to tell you; I stopped last Saturday morning shortly after they opened. I got five pork and chive dumplings. a steamed Bao the size of a baby's head, a scallion bread sandwich loaded with pork and multiple veggies - a diet Coke - all for less than $9. The price was right and the food was truly great - especially the scallion bread sandwich. If you are on a budget, a fresser and just love really good food - head straight for 14th Street.
