For faddies, not foodies
I found this a truly disappointing experience. I love eating out and there is no type of food that I do not eat. I was underwhelmed by the lack of flavors, poor presentation of the food (yes, you serve it on pieces of slate but many of the entrees are totally monochromatic - imagine getting a whole plate of food that is red or grey or white) and ambivalent service. The high prices are the ultimate insult. This place seems very contrived - a place for people who want to think that they are trying something unique and different but who are, in fact, just paying too much for pretentious mediocrity in its most blatant form.

Unique Experience
Having just walked out of a Moroccan restaurant on 6th Street because of disinterested service, I walked into Vandaag and was delighted to find the hostess accommodating and very welcoming. The food was fresh and very tasty. It was not a crowded night, which made for a relaxing evening. Expensive (especially after two digestifs!) but worth it.

interesting food, slow service
I liked the food here a lot - it was interesting and mostly tasted very good. The service was polite but extremely slow. I'd come back but only if I had a lot of time on my hands.

Unique and awesome!
I stopped in Vandaag on a whim...I was so pleasantly surprised! The menu was very unique not one I was familiar with, however my server was extremely knowledgeable. She recommended the heirloom tomato smoorebrod (spelling?) and waterzooi! Both were phenomenal! The heirloom comes with basil seeds, which are my new obsession! The waterzooi offered a lovely broth and succulent mussels and shrimp, I wanted to bathe in it! By far I was most impressed with the beer knowledge and selection! I like beer but now I love it! The decor is beautiful and spacious, the service was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable! Cant wait to come with friends!

Place needs a manager
Celebrating a special event and the food was outstanding - layers of flavors smoothly blended. Then somewhere in the middle of the meal the service disappeared. No steak knife with the steak. Birthday dessert brought to the wrong table. No one around to ask for the check. When it arrived, it was for half the amount is should have been. Again took awhile to find the server (by this time it had shrunk to one) who did not seem particularly concerned. Maybe if I had paid the original tab she would have been out of a generous tip and maybe even out of a job. Who is running this place? How do you account for the indifference in the front of the house in spite of the fact that there is truly someone who knows what to do in t he kitchen?

Love It!
Astonishing change from typical ethnic fare. Pleasantly surprised and delighted with the new cuisine, and quite impressed with the execution.

take this as constructive
This place is a mixed bag..... Let me explain. 1. The kitchen clearly knows how to cook (but don't taste their food!). 2. The menu and dishes are interesting & inventive (the concept is way to contrived). 3. It is good to see someone trying to stand out and do something different ( i just don't think anyone will care as much as the owners & managing staff). 4. The food has the possibility to be good(but is way to fussy, pay attention to basics). 5. Go here for an experience (not to eat a regular meal). With all that, I do wish them luck. It is hard to do something special and clearly they are trying.
