Judgemental Server
When I was sitting down at the table a fellow diner moved the menus away & knocked over a glass of water. The wait staff responded quickly to clean the spilt water on the table & floor. I ordered a Beefeater Martini which came quite fast. BUT it was severly diluted & I could not taste the herbal flavorings of the Beefeater Gin. The pizza had been ordered & I did not want to endanger the pizza outcome. In the meantime we had salad with anchovies --the filet I took looked "old" & tasted "old" Three strikes for V & T's with its judgemental server. What was supposed to be dinner treat turned into a threatening duel. Sad

one of the best
I agree with the other posters that this is a great old neighborhood place and one of the best places for pizza in Manhattan. It has a pleasant, unpretentious atmosphere. Nothing too fancy, just good pizza. This is where you go if you want to sit down, relax, and enjoy great pizza and a glass of wine for a good value. My husband and I went here on a regular basis when we lived in the area a few years ago. We now live on the east side, but we recently headed back to V&T's because it is so good. We were happy to find that not much had changed - same great pizza, and even the same reliable wait staff. Also, a tip if you really want salad - it is mostly iceberg, but add goat cheese to it - they have very generous portions.

V&T has some of the best pizza on the upper west side and manhattan. If your looking for thin crust california style pizza, dont come, they serve it gloppy with fresh ingredients just how it's supposed to be in New York. I wouldn't order anything else other than pizza here, except for a salad, but don't listen to anybody here complaining about anything other than the pizza. Its a great old neighborhood place that has been around for many decades. It's lasted this long for a reason.

good service, food, and quality!
Although the service is slightly slower than most, it's expected to be. It's New York City for crying out loud! And, with it's reputation, the rumors don't do it justice. I give it a "Thumbs Up" and would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Italian food, and likes to socialize. The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is very welcoming.

Workaround for V&T pizza
the best way to eat delivered V&T pizza is to recook when arrives for about 10-15 minutes...we tried ordering the well cooked method, nothing else worked--unfortunatley they are the best pizza east of morningside...give a try ..

Sliding Backwards
Use to be our favorite spot for getting italian and pizza for delivary, but sadly for some reason (maybe change in chef or management) there has been a very noticable backward slide in the quality of the food. Pizza crust always undercooked even after the first few times we tought it was just a random mistake and tried again asking for it being cooked well done, still got here undercooked. Meatballs and spaghetti would arrive withut the meatballs on more than one occation and they would ahve to send those out, and every thing else changed from being really fresh and tasty to just plain bland. Oh no V&T - what happended!?

One of my worst eating experiences ever
If you expect good Italian food with a good service, avoid this restaurant. When I entered, without a formal greeting, the waiter pointed to a table and I sat down. The menu and the water came without any comment and they were just randomly placed in the middle of the table. I didn't receive any bread and after I realized that I was the only table without bread, I asked the waiter for bread. He didn't apologize for the mistake and inconvenience but made a "Yes, sure" comment in a tone as if it is my fault that he forgot the bread. The food arrived and the pizza was a disaster. I can make better pizza in my microwave. Cheap cheese, cheap prosciutto, too much cheap fat (it soaked the bread as the pizza got colder). The baked ziti were not good either. I asked for extra cheese but the amount of cheese was not even considered normal. The sauce was not good and tasted boring. The rose wine tasted like it was diluted. The food arrived without any comment of the waiter and the waiter seemed to be indifferent to his customers. Since I consider a tip a reward for good service, I left no tip at all because the service was one of the worst I've ever experienced. Really annoying was the fact that the waiter complained to a fellow waiter that me and other guests were able to hear it that I didn't leave a tip. Absolutely unprofessional and a " no no". When I was about to leave he placed the check back on the table and said in a very sarcastic voice: "Thank you very much". Restaurants like this are a nightmare for costumers and gourmets and for people who just expect good food with good service.
