Love it
I think anonymous ( the post below) just has a bad attitude! V-Note was one of the best meals my friends and I have had in a long time. My best friend even said she wants to consider converting to a vegan because she never realized how good the food could be. Great atmosphere and great food! Will definitely be back

Worth every penny
I took a walk over to V-Note this summer but the opening date had been set back and so I was really looking forward to eating here. I passed by a few days after they opened and took a look at the prices. Holy Seitan Batman, save me from sticker shock! As the new boy on the block don't you tip toe into the pool and after you get really really busy up the prices find the balance? I know nothing about restaurant management but seems reasonable to lure me in, have me come back and find the prices are a buck or two higher. I resisted and resisted and then when a "Living Social" deal for V-Note showed up in my inbox I could no longer find an excuse. I mean, 20 bucks is 20 bucks and that was the savings. I made a reservation for 3 and off we went. Modern slick meets dark warm wood. Banquette along one wall. Personally I don't enjoy eating elbow to elbow with other diners unless a) there's no place left to sit or b) I know you very well or c) there's enough room for my butt to not knock over a water glass on the adjoining table, (in which case they're no longer elbow to elbow). When you put this Caesar Salad in your mouth it said, "Bang! Caesar Salad in the HOUSE!" Although I think buying a pre-made protein like Gardein and putting a crisp on it and serving it in a very upscale restaurant is a bit of a cop out, it paired amazingly well with the salad and it was an impressively close impersonation of a Chicken Caesar Salad. Caesar Salad Gomashio, toasted capers, soy chicken and herbed croutons. $14 I was waiting for a bite of crabmeat and that was just silly. One day maybe I'll taste something like it but these were close. There was a nice taste of the ocean with a crab cake consistency, not too mushy and with a nice crunch on the outside. The combination with the tarter sauce was indeed a memory of another dining era in my life. Very nice dish. Crab Cakes Blend of hiziki seaweed, tofu, herbs and spices with a tartar sauce $10 This dish wasn't trying to be anything other than delicious. It had a wonderful earthy flavor from the veggies and the lentils were cooked perfectly, neither mushy nor too crunchy and that combination with the crisp and doughy phyllo set this dis...

I give it a C
My fiance and I live right around the corner and were thrilled to find out that a new vegan restaurant was opening on the UES. We absolutely adore Candle 79 and were looking forward to another good restaurant. V-Note was awful. Awful. The decor is beautiful, they offer wine by the glass, carafe, or bottle and our waiter had a smart mustache and that's where the buck stopped. Here's what we ordered: Starters: Lumpia-too large fried pieces that made me question why it was called lumpia. Curry potatoes, my ass. Largely tasteless. Wilted Spinach Salad-The soy bacon was dust on the top of the salad, the roasted corn was absent, the cashews and mushrooms inconsequential and there were strange small cubes of tempeh. My cat can make a better balsamic vinaigrette. The flavors lacked any pizzaz. Entrees: Seitan Scaloppini-Sereved on a huge plate with super watery white wine sauce (would have been better in a shallow bowl), the seitan was dry as hell and difficult to cut. The edges were like jerky. The mashed potatoes were lumpy and soon dissolved and dispersed into the watery white wine sauce, the sauteed spinach consisted of maybe 5 huge leaves. The whole dish was dumb. Ravioli With Cashew Cream-The supposed house-made ravioli was thick and rubbery. Eww. The filling was tasteless, small and uninspiring. The presentation was sloppy. It looked as if they had drained the pasta, dumped it on the plate and poured the supposed cashew cream sauce (it tasted more like Bertoli Alfredo from the jar) all over the top. The thick pasta was stuck together in a clump. Boo, I say. Side: Quinoa-What's up quinoa mixed with taco seasoning and dumped on a plate? Oh, you're also $6. Awwwesome. We did not stay for dessert. The table next to us sent their entrees back. All the other reviews I have read have been great, so I don't know if it was a bad night or if the chef has his head up his ass. At any rate, we probably will spend our $100 at Candle 79 or at some other worthy establishments.

amazing food and beautiful place!
I passed v-note one evening on my way home and the place looked so inviting so I went in to have a glass of wine and ended up having dinner. What a treat! Welcome to the Upper East Side. Will be back.

Don't pass this one by!
Great food, great wine, laid back atmosphere. I was really happy with my experience here- have been back several times since the opening and am pleased every time. I'm not a vegan, I like good food and quality service. This is where you get both!

Upper Eastside's Newest Gem
I visited this restaurant with a couple of friends and we had a fantastic time. We were some of the first to arrive, but the venue filled very quickly. I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian, but the food was amazing. The selection of organic beers and wines, was spot on. Staff, very outgoing and very attentive. They're off to a fantastic start. I will definitely be back very soon.

Amazing
Not a vegan but I loved my experience at V-Note. The decor is chic, the service outstanding and the food... yummy! I highly recommend the black eyed pea appetizer.
