    Best coffee in the world

We stumbled upon Utopia after traveling, settling into our apartment and setting out to find ANY place to eat. We were headed to the Chipolte next door but saw Utopia and decided to try it. Immediately we were greeted and served by the staff . Our food was simple, (BLT's), fresh and delicious and a bowl of freshly sliced fruit. The prices were incredibly reasonable. Being so close to our apartment, we decided that we would have our daily breakfast there. We were never disappointed. Over the course of two weeks we had a variety of breakfast foods including monster size pancakes, mouth watering belgium waffles, homemade potatoes, daily fresh fruit (and we know fruit, we're from Florida and we grow it in our back yards), omelettes and perfect bacon. We got to know the regulars of which there were several, a testament in and of itself. The most perfect coffee ever! The staff was so attentive and service was so fast. We had made friends and by the time we left, we were taking pictures with the staff and saying a fond "Until we meet again"

    Excellent

We always eat at Utopia whenever we visit New York. The breakfast is superb and we've also tried lunch and evening meals and have never been disappointed. The price, service and atmosphere are all good and so I cannot understand some of the negative comments. We are looking forward to our next visit to Utopia.

    What has become of you?

I've been eating at Utopia since I was a kid and all I can say is - What happened? It's now super expensive and the food is not good. Not even good diner food. I've never gotten what I want how I want it. They can't make the fries extra well done. They can't not put ice in the fountain soda. They can't not give you attitude if you call them on it.

    Average, overpriced diner

Lunch here was rushed, but that's to be expected in a NYC diner on the weekend. No problem. However, the waiter did roll his eyes at a bit of indecision while choosing from the expansive menu. The atmosphere here is a bit better than most NYC diners. Stained glass panels give the place a nice feel and it's more open than others. While in the booths you may have to fight your neighbor behind you since the benches seem to move with you. The problem I had here is a combination of price and food quality. A staple at diners is always soup. Here we had two different kinds, but they both tasted similar. I think it was freezer burn. Whatever it was there was an after taste to both. Although we didn't have any, the breakfast dishes looked really appetizing. The burger was fine-diner like. The prices here are higher than most other diners I have seen in the neighborhood--I just wish you got what you paid for. I would come here again because it is a convenient location and it is roomy, but I would have brunch food next time.

    Good Diner Food

People, don't kid yourselves. You're going to a basic diner, so don't expect to get something like a Grilled Portobello sandwich and have it be good. C'mon now. Utopia has been around for years and years, and one thing they will never be bad at is breakfast. Their breakfast specials (until 11 AM) are the best around, and service is great. Always attentive and friendly. Prices are desirable too. Good breakfasts and other basic diner food (burgers, grilled cheese, french fries), but don't expect anything more then that. (Also, I thought this was so terrible and random that I had to add it. One morning, I was in a rush and stopped in for an egg and cheese sandwich, no bacon! Now normally, you'd pay a maximum of $2.50 for a breakfast sandwich... here at Utopia, they charged me close to $5.00! Crazy... I'll never do that again.)

    Great diner

But it is a diner. Who orders "wraps" in NYC diners? (I think they're a phenomenon that should've been drowned at birth, but that's another issue.) If you stick to diner food - burgers, sandwiches, omelettes, etc. - they're great - much better than the average diner. Is is a destination? Of course not, what diner is?
