All that probably could be said about a restaurant probably has been said about the USC. From bad to great. However, in my opinion, it consistently delivers on all three levels. Good food, good service and good atmosphere. It is just as much a NY institution as Peter Lugars, The Four Seasons ,etc. No need to go into detail, from appetizers to desserts, all was excellent.

Just had lunch this afternnon with a couple friends. It was wonderful. The service was excellent, attentive and friendly, and the food was delicious. I would definitely dine here again, and would highly recommend to even the toughest of restaurant critics!

I cannot disagree more with recent reviews. I hadn't been to USC in 6 years or more.. I was in the neighborhood and reserved a table. First of all , the waitress couldn't have been more friendly and accomodating. The calmari were the tenderest I have ever had, the gnocci redolent of porcini and the lemon-pepper duck as perfectly cooked and flavorful as it had been lo those many years ago. I left most happy. I will have to go back before another 6 yeqrs pass.

We came back to the Union Square Cafe after a 3 year break. Things have definitely changed! I don't mind spending money for quality food. This was not quality! I ordered the tuna (so did my friend). We had to send it back because it was COLD! It was still cold when we got it back. We ordered the gnocchi as an appetizer- very good, but very small for $15. I will not be coming back again!

For my 37th Birthday I was excited at the thought of having dinner at USC. Its ratings excited me so much that my expectations were completely let down. I had the Calamari first and honestly it was nothing special. Infact I have had better at chain restaurant. Then I went on to the COD. I expected something like butter when I took my first bite. Instead, I had to add lemon to give it some flavor. Thankfully the mushrooms gave it some balance. My expectations were let down. I expected perfection and I got mediocrity.

I haven't been to USC for years now. I had remembered a great meal the last time. I went with a friend and we were both very impressed. The food was great. The banana tart for dessert was amazing.. The service was a tad slow in the beginning but our waiter was very helpful and friendly. All in all, a great experience. The make sure I'll make a return trip soon.

This is one restaurant with poor, disrespectful service. It's all hype ---good food but poor service. Even management need to learn hospitality.
