Union Square Cafe

Awesome restaurant! One of my boyfriend & I favorite restaurants in the city. Awesome fried calamari. One of the best's we've ever had. Great oysters always fresh! The duck was delicious along with the steak & mashed potatoes. Fish specials are always fabulous! I've never been disappointed! I would highly recommend Union Square to anyone! It's definitely worth the money. Service has been excellent every time we've gone!

The cafe lives up to everything I'd read. I sprained my ankle moments before we arrived and, once inside, the hostess brought me a chair so that I could elevate my injury and a bag of ice to prevent swelling. This saved my vacation. The restaurant's decor and ambience are understated and tasteful. Our waiter was charming, humorous, intelligent, helpful and knew where to draw the professional line. His recommendations were right on in terms of what and how much to order. The drinks were well made; the pastas were divine (one w/truffles, the other w/a rabbit ragu) and the salad and lamb chops were excellent. We ordered dessert, but really didn't need to. They, too, were very good. Everything was beautifully prepared and simply presented. No frou frou here...just good solid ingredients. The care and courtesy we received are unmatched in my dining out experience.

We visited on the recommendation of several friends. researched the menu, and were glad we went! The place was busy but we were promptly seated. Hostess was friendly, no attitude. Our waiter was a bit snippy, and not very helpful with recommendations. The food was delicious. I had made a point at the time of my reservation - one week prior-of confirming that chicken was on the menu because the vegetarian option (Indian Flavoured veggies) didn't sound too appealing. That evening there was no chicken on the menu and the waiter did not seem apologetic or concerned enough to offer another option. I went with the Indian Veggies and they were outsatnding. Each veggie had a unique flavour, and I could not finish anything even though I wanted to! This is a resto we will return to.

The food here was great and I was truly impressed with the service. I went there with my boyfriend a few years ago when we were both in college and looked very young, yet the staff treated us with the utmost respect and courtesy.

We spent 5 days eating our way through Manhattan. Some true high points and many lows. There are the restaurants where you just feel as though you are getting "worked" and then those where service doesn't mean trying everything possible to run up the bill. Union Square Cafe is one of the very best in NYC and yet there is no attitude that I could see. The food was impressive and the service was just right and the prices were very reasonable. Our #1 dining experience of the 2004 visit.

Though it wasn't the worst dinning experience, this is gotta be the most overrated NYC restaurant. Bad NYC attitude service... Wasn't so thrilled with food either.

The food is always great, and the desserts even taste so much better than the menu implies...The coffee is superb, and the staff is very sweet....I love this restaurant,
