    Archetypical NYC Steakhouse

When you think "NYC Steakhouse" think "Uncle Jack's." The service is superb, from the bartenders to the captains. The steak was cooked to perfection - the sides, the garlic mashed and the creamed spinach, with a dose of nutmeg, was fine ... on the downside, it was so dark the menu should have been in braille - while the meats are excellent the menu could do with more choices, and, of course, the tab is steep ... we sat on the balcony, and finished a leisuely two and a half hours later ... if price is not an issue a fine choice.

    Great Place before a Show

It was a suprise to find a great steak house in the area. With so many new off-Broadway theatres in the West 30's, it is hard to find a place that can get you in and out and to the theatre. We were all going to a great new show "Once Around the Sun" at the Zipper Theatre. Uncle Jacks's is too great of a place to stagger in starting with 3 and ending up with 6 people. They had to move us and keep the orders going and get us in and out in 45 minutes (or less). We were not their typical client, but they accomodated our every move and did it without complaints and with great service every step of the way. I can only imagine if we only wanted dinner and could savor the full treatment. I loved the show and will see it again and definitely go back to Jack's and enjoy the full treatment. They may command high prices, but give great service. I took my clients and everyone wants to go back again.

    Excellent!

Wonderful presentation, great service, superb food. Great seafood as well as steak. I ordered the T-Bone steak while my brother had the surf and turf (Prime Filet and Lobster Tail). The steaks were cooked to perfection, very juicy and tender. The lobster tail was huge and tasty. The service is impeccable, the captain was very professional and outgoing. Did I mention their wine list ? It's just impressive. The atmosphere was a bit dark but very classy. We both loved this place a lot better than Luger.

    Testosterone Palace

We've been to many a steak house but this one was totally sub average. Food, as steak houses go was about average and overpriced. The night we were there it was filled with a noisy out-of-town sales crowd trying to out do one another, we had trouble hearing one another. Save your money an go to a place that's worth it in a better part of town.

    Average

You want to charge $36 for a Filet Minion that's about 9 ounces, more power to you, but how do you justify customers paying $75-125 per person, when your restaurant is on 9th avenue. Uncle Jack's is the only real restaurant within 4 blocks of there. Order a $35 dollar steak, and you expect some potatoes, or at least some veggies. Peter Lugar's is bare-bones when it comes to steak, but it's also a lot cheaper than Jack's. Anyway, you want some fries or some mash potatoes, expect to pay $5.75 each, for a side dish. I usually get the porterhouse, but once they had Kobe beef Porterhouse, which was like $150 for about 36 ounces. Great steak, but I couldn't be sure it was Kobe beef, and it was not enough for 2. Dessert is pretty bad, and you are best off getting the fruit, since it's pretty hard to go wrong there. When you go, make sure you are coming from 34th street or the south-side. Everyone knows that area, and if you're coming from 31st to 32nd St., you'll run into some shady individuals, and if you're paying for one of the most expensive steaks in NYC, you'll want a better lead-up to your meal.

    Get the Kobe...

Even though it was 150 bucks that steak was worth every penny. The service was great and the atmosphere is cozy and dark. The prices were a little high but overall I would say it is my favorite steakhouse in the city. Oh yeah did I mention get the Kobe?

    Always fantastic, never disappointed!

My husband and I love steak and enjoy trying different steakhouses throughout the City. No matter which we try, we keep coming back to Uncle Jack's as our favorite. We love everything about it: the steak is always cooked perfectly, whether we have the NY strip, the Porterhouse or the T-bone - it's juicy and served hot; the steak sauce is fantastic; the side dishes are even delicious; the atmosphere is cozy; and the staff is friendly and welcoming. If you like steak, you have to try this place!
