    Poor excuse for a steakhouse..

the place feels like a quality steakhouse.. we were seated by the window with a group of six of us.. - verbal menus.. not looking to extend my memory at a steak house.. was finally given a paper menu after asking twice and a scowl.. - the tuna tartare was flavorless - the steak and lobster consists of just an ok filet and a rubbery lobster.. You can get a better meal for less... and that ain't saying a whole lot..

    Spend your money somewhere else

I would suggest avoiding this place period. I was hesitant about this place since of all the negative reviews out there but sometimes you just have a give them the benefit of doubt boy were we wrong. 3 out of 4 steaks were sent back b/c they were undercooked and cold. They gave us a new round of steaks and still under cooked. My friends first steak was so under cooked it could have gotten up and walked off the table and we ended up spliting mine which was still cold and undercooked (guess they don't know the meaning of well done). I don't see how they can charge 45-50 dollars for a steak that doesn't even compare to striphouse or lugars. Salads were mediocure and service was blah even though the manager did take off the three steaks for the trouble but it was too late. I've been to strip house, sparks, lugars, and they are not as expensive as this place and they are 10 times better. I would never think of writing a review but for your own good save your money and go to lugars, or strip house avoid this place..

    Pleasant

We have lived in Mahattan for over 20 years. Many a times we have passed Uncle Jacks's on Ninth Avenue. Last year (2005) around New Year's a friend and I stopped in to have a drink and when we left we said to one another, what a pleasant bartender. For the holidays 2006, we went back to Jacks to have a Holiday Dinner, not only were we treated graciously but this particular Captain :-) was professional, polite and pleasant. He was not in least pushy like we have encountered in other Steak Houses. We enjoyed the food, atmosphere and the service. We both would like to thank the Captain for allowing us to enjoy pleasant dinner.

    Highly Over Rated

Steak was OK but the rest of the food quality was poor to medium. Resturaunt is over rated and the staff is pompous.

    Dine in Decadence

I love Uncle Jack's. This restaurant is even better than the original in Bayside. The atmosphere is one of wealth and luxury. The food is spectacular; their choice of wines is wonderful and they are very helpful. I have never had a bad steak there and I think it's on par with any other place in NY.

    Not Good

After going to Luger's, no steak place can really impress you. Yet Rothmann's, Palm, Sparks, Smith& Wollensky, Bobby Van's, and even Churrascaria Plataforma all offer highly satisfying cuts. Most recently, I went to Uncle Jack's and expected something on par with all but Luger's. Sadly, my uncle, my fiance and I were all heavily disappointed. We started off with the seafood sampler, which was nice. I especially liked the cocktail sauce, but the shrimp and crab were dry. Our waiter also had said their signature crabcakes were included in the sampler, but it was a regular cold sampler over a bed of crushed ice. We also had a tuna tartare appetizer that was wonderful. However, I think a steakhouse should be judged on one thing: the steak. The steak was cooked decently, not well, but decently. You can't cook a porterhouse completely medium rare, but I did expect a little more uniformity. Too many pieces were either rare or medium well. Steak was stringy and hard to cut. even for waiter. Waaay too much fat. And most importantly, the taste - just unacceptable, mealy, tasted old rather than aged. I was starving so I choked down most of the steak.. No on even touched the bone! Steamed asparagus okay, mushrooms swam in grease. The apple strudel was killed with sugar, spice and butter; had a tough leathery casing. Ice cream served withwas poor. The wine and beer were nice though overpriced, Kenwood Cab Sav '03 Uncle Jack's prices are higher than Luger's and most other steak places. So I would definitely suggest avoiding Uncle Jack's. It is possible I got a bad steak and that usually they are delicious and cut like butter. However, for the price, they should know how to avoid serving a steak of such poor quality - especially when they hang a large banner outside saying " ***** Best Steaks in New York."

    Excellent

The steaks were awesome. The service was spectacular. The prices were high, hey you get what you pay for. Uncle Jack's staff tries hard and it's a great dining experience. The manager is very knowledgable and passionate about food and wine!
