Broken hearted
Decided to try because of all the hype on television. Had 7:00 reservations for valentines day, difficult time finding the place. They gave our table away after 3 calls to hostess telling her we were lost! Found it and we were seated on top of another couple. The waiter was a impolite - with holier than thou attitude - and became a nuisance - let's get to the overpriced meal - steak was dry, spinach was runny, only good thing was the lobster salad - they pushed us out quickly for the next 9:00 seating. Overall, we will NOT return there. Wine was overpriced extensively :(

#1 Service? No way
I find it amusing watching FoodNetworks Restaurant Stakeout where the owner self proclaimes that his resaurants are #1 in service. I have been to jacks 4X's in the past 2 years and all 4 times, the service is way below par- so much so, that it is mindblowing. The waiters have an aura of 'holier than thou' prob thinking that since their boss is on a tv show to improve restaurants, then they in tunr believe they are the best. But u can only be the best, if you deliver the best, and these guys spend more time chatting with one another, and looking like it's a hassle to wait on than actually delivering good service. Hey, I just want my waitor to greet us, take our oder, and check in every 20- min. Is that so hard to ask? All 4 visits, either myself or someone I was wife needed the waiter and we don;t expect them to come running, but each tim it literally was like trying to hire a CIA officer to hunt them down. But mostly, it's the "holier than thou" attitude they eminate. Ex- while taking my order I decided to change it from rare to med rare after everyone else had ordered. The waitor literally made this look and sound as if the wordl was ending and he had to rewrite what he wrote down! Then for the rest of the meal, it was like he totally was trying to get a rise out of me. I asked if they recommended a wine and he said "all our wines are good, you can't go wrong with any of them". i was like "ok, well what do u recommend (meaning for my dish)" and he answered "like I said, all our wines will go with that dish". Well, no you did NOT say that and when a customer is being super polite and asking for YOUR opinion on a specific wine, either you recommend one, or you say it in another nice way and not so downgrading. The food is overpriced but thats fine for these types of resutarants, but what makes it even out is the service cus that really is what we pay for when we come to places like this- else I could just go to dean and Delucas and but a $40 steak and cook it better than the restaurant, but I am here cus of the EXPERIENCE, and the experience is mostly on the service, and sorry to say, the service at Jacks really sucks. Shame on the owner to be out parading on tv giving advice on service when his own restuartant is in dire need of it.

In Jacks, I trust
My wife and I dined here (56th St location) last night, Feb. 14, 2012. I read all the other reviews and found some to be unwarranted. Our waiter was excellent. The food and drink was also top shelf. The quality and quantity for the price was better than other restaurants in the nearby area. I highly recommend this establishment for a great dining experience.

Things have improved greatly.
In the course of several years I have tried the midtown location of Uncle Jack's probably about 7 times more due to the convenient location rather than because of good meat. That in addition to the 25 other nights per year I dine at various steakhouses. In the past service was overstaffed yet inattentive and confused at times and the meat was clearly sub par for a house proclaiming "the best steakhouse in NYC" as their slogan. However, in the past two years things have improved massively and if you know what to order 'off the menu' you will receive one of the premiere cuts of meat the city has to offer. It takes a lot to satisfy my palette only because I have experienced steak in so many steakhouses places for so long. If you converse with the managers and are an experienced diner you will see that Uncle Jack has also turned a new leaf in level of service quality. Kudos to you Uncle Jack for making a change.

Poor service
This is the 2nd time we have tried this Uncle Jacks and the service was as poor as the first. Our primary waiter took about 15 minutes to come to the table and after saying hello, couldn't take our order because "another table was calling for him". My seat looked directly into a big mirror where I would see that he walked over to the register, chatted with other staff for about 5 more minutes, then entered something in the computer, walked around the other side of the bar, and came back to us about 10 minutes later. The food was good even if a little overpriced. The shining star was our busboy. I would go back if he were our waiter. By the way, we have had excellent meals and service at the Uncle Jacks on 56th st, but I doubt I'll ever go back the the 9th street Uncle Jacks even though it is 2 blocks from where I live.

SO So
Not a good value.. Most dishes are fair; hamburger and lamb chops are excellent. The staff is mostly not attentive.

Some dishes are really good and some are a huge rip
The lunch chicken sandwich and steak sandwich are tiny. They give you 4 ounces of meat and charge 20 bucks. The bread is unappetizing too. Totally overpriced and not satisfying. The cajun fish was fair and the price was fair too. The hamburger was delicious and one of the best Ive tasted ever, but certainly not huge. If i had not ordered the goat cheese salad to start I would have left hungry and I am all of 130 pounds and I'm male. The steaks are top quality but not seasoned with anything so they are lackluster. The steak sauce they provide on the side is quite interesting and good but it doesnt make up for the tasteless steak. The lamb chops are superb!!!! The value is also justified at 44 dollar because they give 8 very thick meaty chops. The sauteed asparagus is also very tasty. The service is disorganized and unpredictable. A much more pleasant dining experience can be had at some other Manhattan steakhouses such as Capital Grill. Unlike Uncle Jack's that place has a regal presence to it. At Uncle Jack's the tables are cramped and small and the decor is lackluster. I dont know why Uncle Jack's survives. At these prices there should be nothing to complain about. However, I would say that 50 percent of the menu items are worthy of complaint. 50 percent of the service is unreliable. 50 percent of the restaurant design is unacceptable. Shape up Uncle Jack's!
