Great for Pre-Theater or a Special Occasion
We recently went for an early dinner on a Saturday to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant was quiet, the service friendly, and the food was amazing. The beers were icy cold and the filet was one of the best I've had in NYC. I highly recommend Uncle Jack's.

Expensive
My wife & I visited this restaurant on a recent visit to NYC, it was recommended by our hotel, as a mid priced steakhouse. Shown to our table we decided on a standard steak each (at $35 each it had better be good), then a couple of beers and rather than, as we would have expected, a jug of iced water a bottle of water arrived and was opened and poured for us. We ordered two sides and waited for the food. The waiting staff, were a little too attentive, always there topping our glasses up (I can do that myself!). The food arrived and it was very good, steak tender and cooked as ordered, the sweet potato fries excellent. We skipped a dessert and asked for the check. $144 for two steak, two sides ($8 each), two beers and a $10 bottle of water is a little steep (daylight robbery I call it !!). I noticed that 18.5% had already been added for 'service', so I didn't leave any more tip (I couldn't afford it!) Ok we were on holiday in America but to charge us £90 for a couple of steaks is outrageous!

Great!
I've been meaning to try Uncle Jack's for a long time now, after hearing so much from my boyfriend. We celebrated an anniversary there tonight, and it couldn't have been better. The service was outstanding - nobody was hovering, but our wine and water glasses were always promptly refilled. We weren't rushed at all - great considering it was crowded on a Friday night. I got the New York Strip which was cooked exactly like I wanted. The first bite had some fat, but great after that. My boyfriend's Fillet was the best and HUGE! A great deal for $45. They even brought us a complimentary dessert sample plate which had 4 different selections. This was quite a surprise, even considering the hostess had asked on the phone over a week ago what our occasion was. A wonderful splurge and highly recommend.

Excellent NY Strip Steak
My husband and I ate here 2 nights ago. No reservation...The head Waiter was very welcoming. I had a $15.00 martini (I just had to throw that in but it was Grey goose and very good), my husband a beer ...We shared a great Ceasar Salad and the Ny Strip Steak with Sweet Potato Fries. We had 2 waiters slice and serve the steak. Except for our cocktail glasses not being removed from the table when empty (we would have ordered another had the waiter paid more attention) and our water glasses should have been refilled . Inspite of these small oversights, we really enjoyed ourselves and the waiters. It was very much worth the money (approx $100.00 plus tip) and we would go back.

Delicious food and great service!!
I've never written a review for a restaurant before but when I read all these negative comments, I felt compelled. I had dinner at Uncle Jack's last night with my fiance and it was perfect. We had steak (portion for one which we shared), Alaskan King crab legs, salad and garlic mashed potato. The food was wonderful - the steak was so delicious I didn't even think about using any steak sauce. It had so much flavor. The atmosphere is nice. It is a very old-school, traditional steakhouse where the menu is on a board and the waiters are dressed up. The service was impeccable. We went on a Friday night and it was pretty quiet. Given the mid-town location, it probably does a lot of business lunches and dinners so weekends are probably quiet (just my guess). Anyway, for what it's worth we loved it and are definitely going back!

Fatty Steak
I absolutely DO NOT recommend this place. You can find many other great steak places in the city. I must admit - the atmosphere is very unique, but that's about it. At first, the waiter was nice and charming - as a waiter should be. However, as we contemplated with the wine list he was getting aggravated as we were clearly not ordering the ridiculoulsy overpriced wine on a Monday night. Then came our horrible Porterhouse steaks. They came out cold. One piece was every just plain old fat. As we finished dinner, we voiced as displeasure of the one piece of Porterhouse. The waiter had the audacity to say we "should've spoken up earlier" and it wasnt his problem. It's not that we cared so much about the meat - we just wanted acknowledgement that it was a bad piece of meat. Tha manager came over and rolled his eyes and asked what we wanted from them. He proceeded to roll his eyes again and asked if we would be happy with "free beers." LEFT NO TIP. DO NOT GO

Not recommended
I went to this place just because it was on the list of steakhouses. The steak I got was cold and heavily peppered. I am always suspect of a steakhouse that seasons and doesn't let the natural flavor come through. It makes me think the meat isn't really that good.
