Ukrainian East Village Restaurant

This is a wonderful restaurant. The food is fabulous, (I had borscht and blintzes) the prices are beyond reasonable, it's quiet and one can have a comfortable conversation with one's table mates instead of having loud music blasting in your ear. Too bad that this particular visit was ruined by the waitress who behaved as though she were doing us a big favor and was noticeably rude to boot.

Marvellous to sit in this old-fashioned wood-paneled room and have the caring staff bring you a basket of two kinds of bread (whole wheat and Challah), butter and a menu filled with comforting basic dishes. Vegetarians will love the Vegetable Schnitzel, served with vegetarian mushroom gravy and all the vegetable and potato trimmings. I know I do. Adore the sauerkraut, pierogis of all types and the soups are gorgeous and beg to be taken home for a rainy evening. Big kiss!

Our family was looking for another restaraunt, but got turned around. Being tired and hungry we changed plans and were very happy with the outcome. Hearty meals served hot by a hardworking wait staff. The food was great - the potato pancakes are excellent, as is the strogonaff, and rice pudding for dessert.

I love everything about this place: a) the food is beyond awesome (try their potato pancakes - you'd be hooked!) although it is not always consistent, very regrettably -- and that's why i gave it "4.5" instead of "5" for food quality. b) old world charm. c) very reasonable prices. d) service is often slower than i would have liked but it's ok :)
